Matt 266 att 174 comp 65.4% 2175 yards 12.5 ypc 21TD 8 INT Eli 347 att 218 comp 62.8% 2881 yards 13.2 ypc 23 TD 8 INT What do these numbers tell you. Besides that Eli has 80 more attempts and 700 more yards. As a whole what do these numbers tell you? His Eli overrated? Is Matt underrated? I have always liked the game but I have just started looking at the stats this year. Thanks KWS
I am not sure at all that Eli is overrated. He IS their team, and they would not be anywhere without him. While Ole Miss has decent receivers, Eli is not throwing to receivers with the yards after catch ability of Michael Clayton, Devery Henderson and Skyler Green. What I would agree is that Matt Mauck is probably very much underrated in light of his performance this season. He is the SEC leader in passing efficiency. While he has a much, much better supporting cast than Eli, he has already thrown for more yards this season--with two regular season games left on the schedule--than all but five or so QB's in LSU history. If he keeps playing like he has lately, he will have thrown for more yards this season than anyone other than Ro in 2001, and with a very good completion percentage and TD/INT ratio. It is not a negative reflection on Matt Mauck's that he is throwing to great receivers and handing the ball off to better running backs than Eli has on his roster, but Eli is doing the same thing with a lot less support. Having said that, Eli has not seen anything like LSU's defense this year. Auburn and Florida have good defenses, but neither of them have the shut down defense that LSU has.
Eli is a damned good quaterback. Everyone always said Archie was overrated and the good folks over at Tennessee wrote a song about it. I believe Archie single-handedly beat the Vols with a broken arm.
