Since you asked... I think Marijuana is a relatively (physically) harmless hallucinogen, but I do not understand its appeal, especially to young, vibrant, healthy college kids. What is attractive about vegetating on a couch and laughing at commercials and other inane stuff? I am also firmly convinced that, among young users, the urge or desire to try other, more addictive substances, is increased. The ones that get into trouble are the ones who decide to make marijuana use their lifestyle. If you want to pass around a joint at a party on Friday night, that's one thing (since it's illegal, though, I don't know why you would want to go there. Do you rob liquor stores too?) but many kids devote their lives to the stuff, start cutting classes, blow off studying, etc...and basically waste the money their parents have been struggling their whole married lives to save. I was young once. I have 2 sons. I know many of their friends. I do know this: The ones that I know are pot smokers are pretty much useless children with no direction as are their associates. Once my oldest son quit hanging around with users, he was able to get his degree and earn a living. He now works 2 jobs and is pursuing his Masters. Before, he'd sleep until noon and bitch at me for waking him up. Listen to the old man. Stay away from that crap. It will get you nowhere. Next time you're in a marijuana induced haze, look around the room and ask yourself if you are like the rest of those losers.
This brings up a good question for the board, is marijuana a gate way drug? To me, that's like saying alcohol & cigarettes are gateway drugs. I mean, you wouldn't just jump right into smoking crack. It's a process. Since marijuana is at the bottom of the drug totem pole it gets labeled as a "gateway drug". Abusing & using are 2 different things. I see no problem with using. Abusing it has the same effects as abusing anything else - look at alcoholics, do they seem like they lead rich & fullfilling lives? No, but that's not going to make me never drink...
And yet I'm suprisingly smarter & 'more learned' than most old people. Do you disagree with anything I said?
Ha! For a second there, I thought you were being serious. But, as you have come across as a very intelligent and level-headed person so many times before, I knew better.
Either way, weed rules. The generalizations about those who consume it are every bit as worthless and ignorant as the perception of those being generalized. But it's a pointless argument. You can't argue with fools.
