    Good article, DarkHornet. thanks!

nice find too, charlie, if I could hear what Marcus was saying, it may have been better

My question is, what happens if JaMarcus is not satisfied with the deal that Oakland is trying to sell him by September? Is he stuck at Oakland with a raw deal regardless?

I always knew the Raiders were a dirty team on the field, but this just puts in perspective how the team operates. Every #1 pick gets a helluva large signing bonus and lotsa money in the contract with incentive bonus's. They just need to give him a few bucks more than last year's #1. But they are trying to screw him out of what should be coming to him. This organization in unbelievable.

Right, even Calvin Johnson recieved about 1M over what Mario Williams got last year in guaranteed money. (27M) JR should get somewhere between $28-$30M. The Raiders know this and it should be easy to figure out. :dis:

The problem is not the amount of money, though the bastards initially offered him less than what last year's pick got, but it's the skill and injury clause. Every first pick for the past 15 years got a skill and injury guarantee, they dont want to give him the same privilege.
If anyone's wondering what it is, it guarantees the money incase of injury or incase he was released by the team. They only want to include the injury one in the contract.

The skill guarantee would cover JaMarcus should he be cut from the team if they decide he simply isn't good enough to play in the NFL. For the Raiders to ask that this be inserted should a) tell us they're morons for drafting him in the first place and b) they don't think Russell is very good.

Picking up Culpepper off the free-agent scrap heap last week signals the Raiders intention to move on without signing him.

My thought was more that they may want to cut him when it got to the back end of the contract and they were looking at the more expesnsive end of the contract. Not sure the likelihood of that happening is though.

They're being morons. Russell was on track of getting the starting job by week 1. He was always on time, he made the trip to every voluntary practice, he studied the playbook in his own time, and by the end of camp, he was doing better than both QBs the Raiders had. Kiffin was happy, his teammates were happy, and everyone thought the guy can really develop into something huge from what they've seen in camp. What Al Davis decided to do is play my way or the highway, and it IS going to be Russell's way, Im gonna tell you that. You cant force a contract on the friggin NO. 1 pick in the draft!! They knew from the beginning that this was gonna cost them money, BIG TIME. If they didnt want to pay for it, then they should've traded that pick to someone else WILLING to pay.

What are your thoughts on the NBA system where the contracts are determined strictly by their draft position and there are no disputes between player and team; the NFL has basically has the same rule, although unwritten, but it is more of a guideline that for some reason gets warped at the top of the draft.
