I read this earlier today Joe and it made me sick. I just wrote a post on another board earlier complaining about how the illegals seem to lack an interest in learning about American traditions and patriotism. I guess we need to fix our own house before I start throwing rocks in someone else's yard.

Blame the schools and the parents, they are the ones that teach children these things. The books are still there, kids just don't read them and video alone doesn't educate worth a damn. And blame the kids, too. Student apathy is the biggest problem in education today.

    Reds correct,
Parents are so busy making a living that they don't parent their children.
I'm not saying everyone is like this but there are enough parents out there
that has no idea what their children are doing.
I would also guess that not many parents go to parent and teacher night at
    school anymore.
Forgive me for not reading the article yet but I wonder how many of these
    are illegals that can't read?

Our education system is in horrible shape right now. It can't all be blamed on them though. Parents take ultimate responsibility and we all as voters share the blame for not putting people in office that will make it better.

I'm not sure how serious that blame the liberals comment was, but the republicans seem to be only further screwing it up.

Well, let's just put it this way: The NEA can hardly be called a Republican organization, OK?

The problem is teachers who view the classroom as a captive audience to their own personal (as well as party-line) propaganda, instead of doing what they're PAID to do...which is TEACH.

The problem is teachers who, with the backing of their union, view the classroom as a captive audience to their own personal (as well as party-line) propaganda, instead of doing what they're PAID to do...which is TEACH.

And this is soley a liberal problem? Besides, that's an issue at universities, not near as much so at elementary, jr high & highschools.

And I suppose the No Child left Behind Act is really helping teachers teach...
