love deanies. bucktown is only about a mile or two from my place there so i eat in bucktown a lot! i havent had the seafood platter in years. but it easily feeds two. and their bbq shrimp is just about my favorite anywhere. i need to compare it to pascal's manale. i havent eaten at pascal's in years so i dont remember. but you cant go wrong getting their bbq shrimp.
just two. oklahoma city and new orleans. id like a house in br, but i cant afford that too. :hihi: amazingly, yes. *knocks on wood*
Debris, debris, debris. This is the greatest sandwich on the planet. And I just had a bunch of phenom cuban sandwiches for dinner. I have not had a mothers in probably 5 years. What in the heck is wrong with me?
I have seen all the episodes and it is entertaining. Deanie's was one of those places we always went to as a family since I was little. It used to be better before new ownership but still worth it. The BBQ shrimp are really good but Mr. B's BBQ shrimp are better.
agree on the used to be better, but for plain old fried seafood, still damned good. i havent had the mr. b's bbq shrimp but ill have to try it if you think its better than deanies, cause i love deanies version!
I have a friend who is one of the chef's at Mr. B's and he explained to me the reason why their version was better when I asked him and he said something that I didn't understand. It has to do with the butter used and the number of extra steps Mr. B's uses to make it higher quality.
BTW, does anyone know why they call it BBQ Shrimp at N.O. restaurants when there is nothing BBQ used in the dishes?
I guess any cook who's worth his salt, so to speak, should think his version is the best or better; however his opinion of his own work doesn't count. What really counts is the opinions of the people he's serving... Period. Like the rest of my colleagues who are good, I put my heart and soul into my work at all times, but I learned long ago to just let the chips fall where they may. My opinion of myself as well as my opinions of others don't really matter. What matters to me is did I make someone happy by my work, and if my customers became closer to one another by dining together did I contribute in some way to that. By the way, I never ate the barbeque shrimp at Mr. B's but I'm sure I'm going to think it's tremendous when I do. They do a great job there!
