    nice job, Sarah.

    http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/editorials/articles/2008/10/01/wasilla_made_rape_victims_pay/

"ONE QUESTION that Sarah Palin should answer during tomorrow's debate is why, during her tenure as mayor of Wasilla, the town started charging rape victims or their insurers for hospital emergency-room rape kits and examinations.

After the Alaska Legislature banned the fees, Palin's handpicked police chief, Charlie Fannon, complained that the state's action would force the town to spend $5,000 to $14,000 a year to cover the costs. "I just don't want to see any more burden put on the taxpayer," Fannon said.

As Alaska's governor in 2000, Tony Knowles, put it: "We would never bill the victim of a burglary for finger-printing and photographing the crime scene, or for the cost of gathering other evidence."

im all for frugal fiscal spending, but this is horrible.

Talk about a nothing story. My only reaction was a big SO WHAT?

I think they should put a moose suit on the rapist and let them loose in the woods behind Palin's house.

did you read the story right? they are not making the rapist pay, but the rape VICTIM. and even if this were ok, how do you explain that burglary victims dont pay for dusting for fingerprints.

its just pretty damn harsh. its just one step shy of saying its their own fault for being raped.

How so? What was so shocking? Palin wants perps to pay for rape kits instead of the taxpayers. What's the story here?

Maybe you should read the story again. The rape victims had to pay for the rap examination kits. Not the perps.

    Sorry, I misread it.

It sounds like it was policy, but not her policy. Need more facts.

This is awful, for sure. But if I were shot, stabbed, beaten up, hit by a car...... I would have to pay for my own treatment, right?

    Is this much different?
