BATON ROUGE - Before you crown Matt Flynn LSU's starting quarterback for the 2006 season, consider the following comment from LSU coach Les Miles the morning after the Tigers' 40-3 victory over Miami in the Peach Bowl.

Miles said. "Matt was impressive when it comes to knowing what it takes to win. But remember JaMarcus Russell won 10 games for us. And a lot of those came without a running game."

Russell is now 14-2 as a starter with six saves in either the fourth quarter or overtime over two seasons, and that would be seven saves had LSU's defense held off Iowa in the Capital One Bowl last season. Flynn is 1-0, but that was the last one. Meanwhile, high school superstar Ryan Perrilloux will enter the fray this spring after red-shirting this past season. Perrilloux's arm is reportedly as good as Russell's and his feet are as quick as Flynn's.
