As hard as it is to believe, La Tech actually would INCREASE our strength of schedule. Our current opponents are under .500, so La Tech being at 4-4 doesn't hurt us. And in the Opponents opponents component, La Tech's opponents are 30-21. Currently we stand barely over .500 in that respect. So, after this weekend, GO LA TECH
The SEC schedule will do wonders for our SOS ranking, if Arkansas can pull out a W sometime between now and when we play them... Bama's a lost cause, but the Ole Miss tilt will help us immensely, and if Nutt can muster a winning record, that'll help out, too. If Jawja goes through unscathed, and so do we, that'll help out bigtime, too.
The only SEC games that will boost our Strength of Schedule is if one of the teams on our schedule beats either Tennessee, Vanderbilt, or Kentucky. Otherwise, say if Georgia beats Florida, or visa versa, it's a wash. We go down because one team lost, and go up because the other team won.
Since Bama only lost by a TD to Oklahoma and to a decent Northern Illinois team by 2, Tenn game, Ark game, etc, does it help our SOS? In other words, do close losses to good teams mean anything? I would think that Bama should have a higher RPI than LA Tech (with a 4-4 record) but I guess each computer systems may rate them differently.
SOS goes by wins and losses only. It doesn't matter if Alabama would have lost by 50. It means the same unfortunantly.
