Reader comments: Hi, Dandydon, Have your heard this remarkable story? Michael Ricks of Oak Forest Academy in Amite, LA played four long years at LSU as a walk-on,without ever playing a down. However,in the 2007 Sugar Bowl, Amite's "Rudy" played the last play at linebacker, and made a solo tackle on the last play of the game-his only playing time at LSU. Recently, he received a personal congratulatory note from "Rudy" of Notre Dame fame, congratulating him for his hard work and perserverance-and the last tackle of the Sugar Bowl. The Hammond Daily Star did a front page story on Michael. Hope this is of interest to you. http://www.dandydon.com/
a friend sent me the entire newspaper article http://www.hammondstar.com/articles/2007/02/07/community_news/0684.txt quite touching. shows that miles does care about the kids, imo.
When he graduated from Oak Forest High School he had several scholarships and other offers to play football at other schools. “But he always said he would rather sit in the stands at LSU than play football for any other school,” his dad said. That is what heart is all about. Ricks had carried the “Rudy” nickname for years with family and friends and the sign Saturday night was plea to let him on the field. “He made the same play Wednesday that Rudy in the movie did,” said Jeff McKneely, who was there. “He lined up on the left, avoided a blocker and made a solo tackle of the Notre Dame running back. So it's funny Notre Dame had Rudy in the movie and that it wound up being an LSU player tackling a Notre Dame player.”
