As I understand it, The Rose Bowl will pick first to replace the Big1T1en Champion, TOSU.

If Michigan is in the NCG, USC would be the automatic pick for the Rose as the PAC-10 champ. That means they do not need to take USC with a replacement pick.

If USC is in the NCG, then the Rose would have the first 2 replacement picks, since they would lose both the PAC-10 and Big1T1en champions. They would probably pick Michigan first, but with no other PAC-10 team being worthy could come looking on the bayou.

If Florida gets to the NCG, USC would be the automatic bid and Michigan would be the likely first replacement pick. The Sugar Bowl would get the second replacement pick. LSU would probably end up in the Sugar due to the relationship with the SEC.

Not sure I see any way for LSU to still be available when the Orange picks.

All of this depends on the Tigers beating Arkansas, which will not be easy.

Good Work islstl. Hopefully this will bring the thread back up.

    Great post, Thorny.

You're right on the button with everything you said.

I of course am ruling Florida out of the NC. But let's say they do get the required human poll votes they need to overtake Michigan.

USC vs. Michigan in the Rose....that's automatic.

Sugar picks next....With Florida in the NC, you would think they would want to pick LSU (refer to Illinois and Oklahoma rousing financial successes from the recent past).

I know the Orange is talking to us, if you believe the reports coming out. But I agree with you, I don't think we last long enough for them to have a chance to pick us. It's good to know that if we are overlooked by either the Rose or Sugar, that the Orange is ready to scoop us up. My fear is still that if Florida loses to Arkansas and the Hogs go to the Sugar, then the Orange would pick Florida over LSU, if it came down to that.

Does anyone else really hope that we DON'T play in the Orange against the ACC? I'm very excited about the possibility of USC in the Rose or ND in the Sugar, but the Orange Bowl doesn't seem as interesting (though if that was our only chance @ the BCS, I'd be happy enough with it.)

Take care of business on Friday, Tigers!

I'm with ya Stacey, but I'll take a BCS game vs a lesser bowl. A a game vs GA Tech would be interesting to me. I hope the Techies win it.

I think a game vs an up and coming Tech would be a good one. I'd hate to play BC, Maryland or Wake though. It would be a no win proposition for many unless we stomped them. Tech is one bad official's call from being 10-1 right now, with UGA still to go.

I love both of LSU's possible (probable-?) matchups should they win on Friday. Either LSU-USC or LSU-Mich are very marketable match-ups for reasons beyond the fact that it's two really good teams going at it.

Like most of you, I'm yearning for a USC match, less for some sort of chance at "revenge" or something, more for the chance to edge ahead of them on the recruiting trail this year (Joe McKnight, anyone?)

Also, a stirring Rose Bowl victory over USC will have fans and the media drawing the "VY and Texas over Michigan-JR and LSU over USC" comparison...a great thing for those of us hoping JR stays on one more season.

I posted one last scenario that actually guarantees LSU an at-large:

WVU MUST lose to either South Florida or Rutgers AND (2 of these 3 events must occur)

Florida loses to either FSU or Arkansas
    Notre Dame loses to USC
USC loses to UCLA or is destroyed by Notre Dame

LSU would finish no worse than 4th in the human polls and 4th in the BCS (automatic at-large). If you trust that USC beats Notre Dame and Arkansas beats Florida, then start pulling like heck for South Florida or Rutgers to beat WVU. USC losing to Notre Dame and then beating UCLA is too close to call as to whether LSU is ahead of USC in the BCS standings at year's end. My guess would be that USC would still be ahead of us, unless Notre Dame absolutely destroys them.

Note: In the event WVU finishes #3 in the BCS and LSU #4 (USC, Florida, Arkansas, Notre Dame all lose), WVU would get an automatic berth but LSU would not. The BCS rules allow for only 1 team to get an automatic berth that finish either 3rd or 4th in the BCS, not both.

You and your Dallas bias, Red. It's going to be 80 degrees for the Thanksgiving Day game between the Boys and the Bucs. The thing with Dallas is you just never know--like the day last week when the temp never rose above 40 and we had 40-50 mph sustained winds.

Yeah it took me 4-5 hours the first night to produce this info. I went to bed at 6 AM that morning. It gave me a headache.

I don't care what you say about the BCS, love it or hate it, but it makes for interesting drama.
