In the latest Sagarin ratings, LSU is up to number 6, but in the ELO-CHESS category of the Sagarin ratings (which goes into the BCS rankings) LSU is up from number 18 to number 10. Their poll average is now 7.5, and with a huge jump in the computer averages, where LSU was deficient last week, LSU has an excellent chance to leapfrog 4 or 5 teams when the BCS rankings come out. I think number 7, personally. Geaux Tigers.
I like how the BCS defies basic logic. It seems to me that if teams A and B both have one loss and team A as beaten team B that team A should be ranked higher but alas the BCS thinks not.
The problem is not with the BCS formula, it's the "human" polls that create this problem. The AP and Coaches polls have always been like that ... lose early and you got a chance to move back up, but lose late in the season and your hopes are dashed. The computer rankings don't take into consideration the time of year you lose a game. Fortunately, the human polls only account for a third of the BCS ranking.
