Here are the national rankings for these two teams by category: OFFENSE passing: LSU #39 -- Tech #7 rushing: LSU #57 -- Tech #73 scoring: LSU #20 -- Tech #43 pass efficiency: LSU #20 -- Tech #48 Total O: LSU #41 -- Tech #15 DEFENSE passing: LSU #38 -- Tech #117 rushing: LSU #2 -- Tech #95 scoring: LSU #1 -- Tech #88 pass efficiency: LSU #15 Tech #81 Total D: LSU #4 -- Tech #114 SPECIAL Net punting: LSU #10 -- Tech #44 punt returns: LSU #5 -- Tech #53 KO returns: LSU #6 -- Tech #76 Tech passes for yardage but scores less than LSU with the pass. Tech has THE worst pass defense in Division I. They are going to have their hands full with the Tigers. Big mismatch on defense and special teams.
That's been Tech ever since the Gary Crowton years. High-powered offense, absolutely HORRID defense. Thing is, they were actually okay to start the year off, but since holding Fresno State to 16 points, they have given up 43 to Boise State (43-37 loss), 35 to UTEP (38-35 win), 44 to Hawaii (44-41 loss), and 34 to Nevada (42-34 win). Since 2002, Tech is 1-6 when giving up 40+ points to their opponents. So I think if we score 40 and do a decent job on defense, their offense will not be able to keep up. Hawaii absolutely ripped Tech to shreds in the game I saw on Cox two weeks ago. The way to beat them is to go deep. If we call the passing game we did against Auburn, we will have success. If, on the other hand, Jimbo Fischer calls the game plan he called against Florida, I will be a tad bit concerned.
You can tell by the scores of thier games how bad thier D is and I have no worries at ALL about our D being able to own thier O.
