evidently some Southern board member is pushing for a LSU-SU match up(link below). Never would happen but if it did it would definatly be an ugly score. http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/103103/spo_push001.shtml A question I have always wondered why does Southern choose to play in the "Black National Championship" in stead of the 1-AA playoffs. I know there have been years where they could have gone deep into the playoffs possibly even win and I would think theat would be better than their "champiuonship."
if somehow this deal actually goes through........I will personally throw a pumpkin at Skip Bertman His little in state rivalry games have hurt our schedules far too much already....and scheduling a SWAC team surely won't help anything. " I think that LSU should float around the state and give everyone a chance ." is a load of BS... Tony Clayton is just interested in the $. Already admitting that Southern would lose makes it even less appealling of an offer. So Skip if you're reading this.... DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!:cuss:
I read the article this morning too. I think Southern is just trying to take advantage of LSU still looking for an opponent next season. They really want the 500K for their program. All this fits into Bertman's 'spread the wealth' philosophy for louisiana schools. He's going to have to say no to the game.
No more 1-AA opponents--period! I'm sick of hearing about our weak OOC schedule this year. Next year already doesn't look any better. I love Southern and always pull for them, but it only helps their program (financially) to play us. What does it do for us?
If we are going to play Western Illinois, why not play Southern? At least that would draw some interest.
Southern does not play in the 1AA playoff because they would get killed in the first round. For many years Southern played Nicholls State. Southern was usually unbeaten and number 1 in the swac. Nichols was usually winless. Nicholls always won. Black colleges cannot compete with intergrated schools.
On a side note Southern would definately sell thier allotment of tickets. This game could set an attendance record.
I agree with this. I don't want us to play weak opponents anymore, but if it comes down to HAVING to play a I-AA school, Southern would be a little more interesting than the likes of The Citadel and Western Illinois.
