LSU is breaking down in the 9th against Bama. It is now 11-10 with only 1 out and bases loaded. It's not looking good for the Tigers. I don't know if we'll ever see the type of dominance LSU had in baseball with Smoke leading the team, he's no Skip. Well it's 2 outs now after a strikeout, alright and now a pop-up. Thank God we pulled that one out at Bama, hopefully the team can get some confidence and start winning more ballgames. LSU, gimme a reason to take a trip to Omaha.
Whew! Smoke may not be Skip, but, who is? Can't live in the past. We're smacking the ball around and the pitching is OK by today's (parity) standards. Bama came back but the fact that Bumstead held them down for 6 innings says a lot. Their top 5 hitters are as good as anyone's. How about Meier? Great job under extremely trying conditions. Bases loaded, 1 out, tying run on 3rd and he gets the K on 3 pitches and a pop up. Good thing the Bama Fans bailed out in the 7th inning or the noise would have been deafening.
I think we'll be fine with Smoke. We will know how we really with him after a few years and all the recruits are his. Despite our early season struggles we should be right in the thick of it for the SEC West and we should get to at least host Regional and if we are hot enough towards the end we can get a Super Regional. If we can get a Super Regional here in BR, we will have a great shot at going to Ohmaha. It is tough going on the road against a team like Rice and expect to win the series.
One thing Smoke learned from Skip. Wins in the early season games (Kansas) and weekday matchups (TU, UNO) mean absolutely nothing in the march to Omaha. The only ranking that matters is the last one.
