To try a get money for needed improvements for Tiger Stadium LSU is pitching a proposal to Nike to help raise some money. "The No. 1 thing we would like to do is put their swoosh on our (football) scoreboard for money," LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman said. "No. 2 and maybe bigger than that is we would like to open up a Nike store in the stadium and do some sales on football game days. We would also put some Nike kiosks around the stadium and they would supply them and make money on what they sell."
This seems like a good idea. The only things that would not be cool is if 1)They add the name Nike to our athletic facilities ie. Nike Tiger Stadium and 2)Change our Football Uniforms like they did to Miami and Oregon. Call me crazy but I like the Nike apperal they sell for LSU. It does not really cost much more to buy their apperal than say Russel Athletic. Nike's LSU T-shirts cost $18 . Making this deal could improve LSU visability around the US. I mean unless you are in LA you can hardly find any LSU apperal except Hats and the occasional LSU t-shirt. Well mabey if they get this deal done the Basketball team will go to Nike. I want to buy a basketball jersey but Sports Belle does not sell one.

I would be up for the addition of something Nike Field @ Tiger Stadium, but not Nike Tiger Stadium.

As for changing the Uni's - no way....... I love our uniforms, even the purple jerserys.

It could be a lot worse than Nike. Imagine if it was Poulan Weedeater Tiger Stadium or Massingill Feminine Hygene Products Field at Tiger Stadium.

Works for me. Should also provide some laughs from the more 'protest-happy' students who'd try to get it not to happen (like they do EVERYTHING that happens on campus).

I like the idea. Shoot if I were Bertman, I may start bluffing with the idea to give naming rights for Tiger Stadium to the highest bidder. I'd never actually do it, but at least it would start putting some pressure on those idiots in the state legislature.

I find it hard to believe Nike would even consider LSU as a school to pay a ton of $ to for name rights........LSU is just not a big enough "National Name" to make that investment. Face it, you go anywhere in the country outside of the deep south and ask a person to name the top 10 college programs and LSU will not be on it. We have to reach the level of having national retail chain sporting good stores carry/sell our gear day in and out, in all markets, before a co. the size of Nike will do something like this.

Now the idea of getting Nike to pay to have the "check" on the scoreboards that's a little more reasonable. that's a more realistic investment.

I agree that having Nike doing our uniforms might make them a little more accesible to fans trying to buy a replica. I know that it is impossible to find any replica basketball shorts, but if you look for a Nike sponsored team (UNC, Texas, Duke, Miami, etc.) there are tons to pick from.

These days, when it comes to sports & the corporate world there is not much a regular person can do to prevent whatever the BIG companys want to do. :dis: Whatever is going to happen is going to happen. I believe most people would be for whatever the athletic dept, TAF and the sponsors would want to do as long as it wouldn't have to come out of their(our) pockets!!......just my 2ยข.
