The LSU-Tulane game was for the Tiger Rag. It was really two flags sewn together, green and gold I think it was.... It "disappeared" years ago. You would think LSU-Auburn would be for the Tiger Rag, but whatever...
This is the story I was told regarding the Tiger Rag: Back in the day (no idea when) when the LSU / Tulane rivalry was something fierce, Tulane came to Tiger Stadium to play the Tigers. Before the game, one of the LSU defensive players - a mean, crazy type - opened the door to the Tulane locker room, looked the Tulane QB square in the eyes and said, "All game long, I'm going to come after you and pound your ass into the ground so hard that I will leave the field with the seat of your pants in my hand." The Tulane QB responded with, "I don't think so - my offense is going to pound your ass into the ground so hard that I will leave the field with the seat of your pants in my hand." The LSU player shook his head, smiled, and replied, "I'll meet you back here after the game and we'll compare asses." LSU destroyed Tulane that night and the Tulane QB was lucky to escape with his head attached to his neck. LSU rolled over the Greenies and the LSU D tore the Tulane offense to pieces. Immediately after the game, the LSU player returned to the Tulane locker room and made his way to the Tulane QB's locker. Once there, no words were exchanged between the two as the Tulane QB quietly slipped off his pants and handed them to the LSU player without making eye contact. Then, right there in the middle of the entire Tulane football team and coaches, the LSU Tiger pulled out a pair of scissors and cut the ass right out of that green pair of pants. He tossed the shredded trousers back to the Tulane QB, held up the green fabric, and exclaimed, "This is now the Tiger Rag - if you want it back, you can win it back next year. But, from this day to that, your asses belong to LSU." Now, I don't claim that this story indeed actually happened, but when a friend told it to me, I thought it was so damn cool that I never questioned it... Has anyone ever heard this or any version of this?
i was always told that the flag was an actually two flags put together, for the rivalry. No intermingling of the players. But excellent story. D.Y.K.: The Tiger Rag they play for as of late was made in 2001 because the origional flag was destroyed in a fire. The last time we played Tulane, in 2001, it was for the new and improved satin tiger rag, but the old rivalry never got back to what it was. I wouldn't find Ole Miss as much as a rival, Auburn took there place along with Florida and georgia....thinking about it further, anybody LSU plays i hate.
Yeah, I was trying to explain about our rivals to the woman (who is from Montgomery) and I had to break down and say "Well, actually, we pretty much don't like anyone in the SEC."
