Simone Augustus and Xavier Carter are female and male athletes of the year in the SEC.

Carter, Augustus Named SEC Athletes of the Year

BATON ROUGE -- LSU's Xavier Carter and Seimone Augustus have been named the 2005-2006 Roy F. Kramer Southeastern Conference Male and Female Athletes of the Year by a vote of the league's athletics directors, the SEC announced on Wednesday.

Carter, a sprint sensation on the track, becomes LSU's third male athlete to win the award, joining basketball's Shaquille O'Neal (1991 and 1992) and track's Walter Davis (2002). Augustus' honor marks the first time an LSU female has been named the recipient of the award. Augustus capped her career as the most decorated women's basketball player in school history.
