Some of the more uninformed fans are actually criticizing the defense. Part of the confusion is due to the fact the FU controlled the first 2 quarters, not because our D wasn't playing well, but because FU had alot of success on 3rd down.

What they fail to understand is A) we held FU well below their average B) their offense is diverse and makes you cover every player at every spot on the field and C) much like ours against MSU and Tulane, their playbook was very vanilla against AU and previous opponents (remember the playcalling spinner wheel?)

Did we dominate them like we have other opponents? No, but show me another defense that will defend them as well as we did. You won't find one. And don't tell me AU. They did a decent job, but only because FU held back and did not show AU the formations or use the same plays that they used against us.

The following old quote seems to apply in a big way to our Tigers...its old and cliche, and I dont think anyone knows who said it first...but it says it all...

I find it hard to believe Florida held back in their loss to Auburn. They may have been thrown out of whack and never got into a groove, but Florida wasn't holding back in a loss so they could surprise us.

That said, our defense struggled with one of the most dynamic offenses in college football. I didn't expect we would shut them down (though Pelini seemed to think we would) and the defense didn't back down and swung back and stopped Florida at the end when we really needed a stop.

I was disappointed because Pelini made it seem like he had Florida's offense figured out. I think Pelini is a great DC, but Meyer is smart too and Pelini took a lot of shots from him on Saturday. Florida had quite a few lengthy drives on us. I imagine Pelini is going to be watching this tape for a while.

My thoughts too, I think this game makes Pelini and our defense better. We will look back at this game as the one which made our team stronger.
