After doing some research (yes I'm bored), I found out some interesting facts.

In 1908 LSU (10-0-0) won a split national championship with Penn (11-0-1). LSU won the National Championship Foundation poll and Penn won both the College Football Researchers Association and Helms Athletic Foundation polls.

In 1958 LSU (11-0-0) didn't win all the polls. It won the AP and United Press International polls, but lost to Iowa (8-1-1) in the Football Writers Association of America poll.

In 1935 and 1936 Louisiana State won the Williamson poll, but lost polls to three other teams in 1935 and Minnesota in 1936.

Since the beginning of the AP in 1936 (67 years), there have only been 47 single champions. Only 70%.

    very interesting,

According to some other schools around here that means we've
    won 4 NC.

    But I have 1 question........

How in the world does a team like Iowa (8-1-1) win some of a
    NC with LSU (11-0-0)

I guess thats the prejudice in the human polls once again.

The thing about those other National Cahmpionships is they aren't real. There were about 10 power ranking systems in the pre poll days. No pre 1936 championship really has any clout.

In the poll era the UPI and AP were all that mattered. Things like the Sagarian rankings, the Dunkel system, the Touchdown Foundation and others still crowned national champions, but these champions were only paper champions usually crowned for some regional reason. I belive the Billingsly system was created in 1993 soley to crown Auburn national champions. They then post crowned champions back to the earl 1900s.

For an illustration as to hpw meaningless all these organizations are in 1992 Sagarain crowned Florida St as its NC. They had a loss and Alabama was everyone elses pick. It is these power systems that allow schools like Bama to claim 17 titles.

The UPI was eventually replaced by the coaches poll, but now the only poll that matters is the BCS. The AP poll is only a component and its championship is worthless.

Oh by the way Ole Miss claims three NCs from the Vaught Era. I know two of them are from Sagarian. But like I said noone recognizes these except Ole Miss fans.

I'm in BR now. A 4 hour drive does a body good. If Ole Miss can claim 3, why don't we claim 4? I would if the Athletic Dept. did.
