I think that Mauck is a winner and a fantastic athlete, but he doesn't seem like he will ever be a grade A quarterback. I hope that the freshmen quarterbacks get a chance to earn the job early on.

Geezzz...How many times can we have this thread????:D

But since you started it again, I will post it agian.......

Matt Mauck will be the starter for the entire season (as long as he stays healthy), Randall will get some mop up duty at 2nd string, and either Russel or Flynn will get a few snaps (the other hopefully being redshirted). I believe neither of the Freshmen will get much playing time this season.......but either could be the starter come 2004

Mauck will be very succesful as far as the most important stat goes W's n L's. Don't look for him to throw for 300 yards more than once this year. When i look at Mauck i see alot of Herb Tyler I guy that can scramble n run the option who can throw for a consistent 200 yrds r so n will do what ever it takes to win. I don't see Mauck losing us any games. Allthough at time Herb did cause us to lose. I don't see Mauck making alot of mistakes. If you look at what he has around him. If the O-line is what its supposed to be. That help's out Muack as well as whoeva's runng the ball n running the ball will help Muack. The recievers r the most explosive they've ever been I see the reciver's creating a whole lot of space where Mauck won't have to make a perfect throw. I think you'll see alot of bubble screens quick slants n the shovel pass. Which should popen up things downfield.

Well, since Mauck's foot injury, he's been forced (not sure if it's a coaching suggestion, or if it's mental) to stay in the pocket more (there was an article on this earlier in Spring practice.). He said that it's healing, and that he'll be fine, but it was obvious that he pays more attention to it than what he had ever done in the past.

Not saying that he can't scramble like he used to, but, in the early going in preparation for the season, he's been committing himself to staying in the pocket longer than what he had in the past.

This could be viewed as both a positive, or a negative. Either his poise in the pocket will increase--allowing our WR's that split second more of time to get open, or he'll hold on to it a split second too late--in situations that in previous seasons, he would have tucked it under and ran.

Either way, I'm sure he'll adjust nicely.

But, like you guys said, I look for Mauck to remain the starter as long as the team is winning....There will be no QB controversy as long as he's getting the "W's". I think Randall will be the #2--purely from an experiance with Russell 3rd--at least to start the season.

If Russell is, in fact, the monstrous QB that everyone has said, and we're hoping to be, then I can't see him being redshirted. And if that's the case, then I would hope that they would redshirt Flynn to give us insurance for the future.

I believe that Matt Flynn will start before JR. I think (from what I've read) that Matt is more polished than JR and just as talented throwing the ball and a skilled runner when needed.
