PRO DAY II: MARCH 31 -- Kansas City president Carl Peterson and head coach Dick Vermeil were among the NFL personnel present. Due to inclement weather, the players ran indoors on Tartan Turf. Marcus Spears DE Spears (6-3 5/8, 304), who did not run on LSU's first Pro Day because of a knee injury, ran his 40s in 5.10 and 5.10. He also ran the short shuttle in 4.48 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.75. He had a 31-inch vertical jump, but did not do the broad jump because he was still concerned about his knee. He also had 23 bench presses. Corey Webster CB Webster (6-0, 200) ran his 40s in 4.50 and 4.50. He also ran the short shuttle in 4.03 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.93. He had a 39-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-4 broad jump and 13 bench presses. Travis Daniels DB Daniels (191 pounds) ran his 40s in 4.45 and 4.43. He also ran the three-cone drill in 6.62 seconds and lifted the bar seven times. Ben Wilkerson C Wilkerson (6-3 5/8, 303) did position drills only.
How Spears stacks up against other top DE's in this years draft Marcus Spears 5.10 and 5.10 - 40; short shuttle -4.48 seconds; cone drill-7.75. He had a 31-inch vertical jump; He also had 23 bench presses. Roth 4.8 and 4.83 - 40; cone drill - 7.65; 32 inch vert; 26 lifts Cody 4.75 and 4.76 - 40; cone drill - 7.09; no lifting (at combine or pro day, makes me wonder why not) Pollack 4.75 - 40; cone drill - 6.87; short shuttle 3.94; 37 vertical; 27 bench presses James 4.78 and 4.74 - 40; cone - 7.56; shuttle 4.44; 37 1/2 vertical I sure hope most NFL staffs go on the "workout monster doesn't equate to NFL success theory) because that appears to be a subpar workout to Spears' ability. I wonder how many other Pro Days were today. It's interesting that KC had such a big contingent.
5.10???? Is he still hurt? If not, his stock is going to drop big time on that. That's a terrible number. DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!
some people just arent good sprinters.. doesnt equate to playing speed. It is also why he projected to go to a 3-4 team because he is big enough to play the de/dt tweener position.
NFL.com doesn't list him. I would hazard to say no, his first pro day nos. were pretty good, so that doesn't surprise me. Marcus Randall quarterback (6'1" 5/8 229) 40: 4.59, 4.60 Strength reps: 14 Vertical: 36in Broad jump: 9ft, 3in Short shuttle: 4.21 Three cone: 6.92
Spears has cemented himself as a mid first rounder. Look at Michael Clayton last year, everyone thought he would drop to the end because of his speed. Out of the 1st rounders, Spears is porbably the heaviest. It looks like he was working out heavier than his playing weight. I didn't realize Corey was that much slower than TD. TD will be a steal whoever gets him. It helps Corey that he is tall and can really jump. LSU! :geauxtige
actually.. things could go bad for CW. The trend with CBs is moving back toward smaller faster guys because of the new contact rules. When CW first moved to CB, he was the prototype, now his model is in question.
corey's new time is a lot better (above) and half a second is about what i figured. his time is fine now. spears is definitely mid to late mid first round. he's simply too solid. that time wont hurt em any.
