With Beckwith out, who stays on the field for obvious passing downs as far as our linebackers go? I can't see Cutrera staying on the field as slow as he is. Any thoughts what we might employ? My guess would be 1 LB (Sheppard/Riley?) and 6 DBs (3 safeties, 3 CBs). Taylor/Coleman/Jones Hawkins/Eugene/Peterson
Cutrera has more experience (not to mention INT's) than the other LBs, and he's fast enough to match up with a TE. Without Beckwith, we'll see more nickel packages where our nickel back will line up sort of like a LB. Jones and McCray are both hybrid types anyway.
I like our chances with or without Beckwith. Sure we lose a little speed but I think thing will be just fine.
From what I've read and heard, Sheppard is very fast. I don't know about Riley. But, and I know you know this, fast isn't everything. Ball skills can put a 4.8 guy in better position than a 4.6 guy.
He will be missed. And if there's any truth to the rumor that he's out for the season, we may be in a little trouble. LB was a spot where we were very thin anyway. Now we might have lost our number one guy. :nope:
Well, they're just rumors. You know how that goes. They may be way off the mark, or Miles might be blowing smokescreens. Who knows, right?
