From TigerBait.com Don't be surprised if LSU opens the 2007 season with a nationally-televised Thursday night game next season. The Southeastern Conference is having talks with LSU about moving its game at Mississippi State to Thursday, Aug. 30. The game is currently set for Sept. 15 in Starkville. "The conference is talking to us about playing Thursday night games," LSU Senior Associate Athletics Director Verge Ausberry said. "ESPN wants more SEC games to be played on Thursday night." Two Thursday night SEC games – South Carolina at Mississippi State and Auburn at South Carolina - have been televised this season by ESPN. Many SEC schools do not want Thursday games because of the disruption of classes. "We will never play a home game on Thursday night," Ausberry said. "We would have to cancel classes." If the LSU-Mississippi State game is moved, that switch would necessitate a postponement or cancellation of the Appalachian State game set for Saturday, Sept. 1. ESPN would get involved with finding another opponent or making moves in Appalachian State's schedule that would permit it to play the Tigers later in the year. The SEC is also working on making adjustments in the league football schedule. According to Ausberry, the LSU-Alabama game will be shifted back to its old spot – the first Saturday in November. "The Alabama game will be a week earlier," Ausberry said. "The Auburn-Georgia game is now on the same weekend as the LSU-Alabama game. The SEC wants to avoid, when possible, having two big conference contests on the same day." The LSU-Alabama game would be played on Nov. 3 next season. The Tigers are presently set to meet Middle Tennessee State on that day. According to Ausberry, the SEC would help LSU find another opponent if necessary. The Tigers are scheduled to play eight consecutive games before having an off date next season. The LSU-Auburn game is set for a later date – Oct. 20. Auburn has expressed a desire to move the game to September. LSU has no desire to make that switch. Ausberry said that there has been no conversation of having all SEC divisional games played at the end of the schedule.
That would suck balls. Let some ****ty WAC or SBC school who need the exposure play on a Thursday night. Although if this gets App. St. off the schedule, it cannot be a totally bad thing.
Rid of App State, good. I don't guess I'd mind a road opener on Thursday, considering the national exposure it'd probably get. Really, how many viewers outside the southeast are gonna tune in to LSU-Moo U otherwise. Seems like it's just a matter of time (translate $) until there will be college football 7 nites a week. Already seeing them on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I don't know if that's good or bad but sure seems to be going in that direction.
There have been a couple of Tuesday games as well. I have no problem with the Thursday game for schools willing to play them but college football belongs on a Saturday. And the Sunday night games are ridiculous. Who outside of New Mexico and Idaho was going to watch that NMSU-BSU game when the NFL game is on.
What's wrong with a Thurday night game? No competition. Everyone in the country gets an oppertunity to watch us annihilate the bulldogs. I like it. Plus, not App. State!
I like the exposure but it gives the coaches less time to prepare so, for me, it depends on who we play. They might as well cancel classes Wed, Thur, and Fri. :hihi:
Of course Auburn wants to move the game to September. They know they can't beat us in middle to late October.
I like the idea. its great exposure and it doesnt hamper prep time... only helps it.... We have the two weeks to prep for the first game... then an extra fri & sat to prep for the second game... With App off the schedule, its a win, win, win situaiton
