I have heard that we have at least 3-4 "secret commitments," who will take their visits and then commit.

My guess (and hope) is that one of them is Early Doucet, although I am not basing this on any inside information. However, he seems to come to the games on unofficial visits and he has also showed up at FB practice , and I can't see why he would do that if he intended to go to another school.

I have also heard that the DB Steltz from New Orleans may be in this category. Of course, his brother plays FB for the Tigers and is a walk-on who earned a scholly at LSU. That should favorably dispose the family toward Nick Saban and the LSU program.

Saban said last week that there are four or five recruits that would commit if they were pressured for a decision. However, he said that neither he nor his staff ever pressures a recruit. He wants them to be free and completely satisfied with their decision before they go public.

Nothing personal Ramah, but I'm glad we don't have you recruiting for LSU. If you were the head coach, you would go after the first 25 guys who wanted to come to this school and say screw all you blue chippers.

Recruiting is won in the last few days leading up to signing day. You will not get the biggest recruits up until signing day, and if you give all your scholarships away in November, guess what? You get shut out. You are left with a lightly talented team with no true stars instead of a team with all great and at worst very dependable players.

    YOU SAID:

Wake up and smell the coffee ... they are all Blue Chips ... every damn one of the 14 verbals to date, and another 6 ready to chirp.
except Quinn Johnson, a big fast Mike LB and sleeper (camp pick)
That's 20 verbals of the 25 LSU will sign this year .... all before the X-mas dead dates. It's never personal ... but if you had brains ... you'd be a dangerous man. No problem, most fans don't understand recruiting, recruiting philosophy/salesmanship.
I have assisted LSU recruiting efforts in the past ... surprise ... and still have hundreds of contacts and continue to watch and grade film on recruits for LSU as a hobby ... where do you think I get all my good info from. I do disagree with your signing day philosophy. Sure, I understand many kids cannot decide and wait till signing day ... or well beyond till April. LSU's approach now is "thinking outside the box" and breaking all tradition relative to signing these kids. We're doing it earlier and better than everyone else. Our summer camps are the best in College FB and we get kids from the entire NA continent. Our recruiting starts even before the 10th grade.

Nick always saves a few schollys (20%) for the late ones. Only an idiot would rest his school's recruiting fate on the whims of an undecided HS kid.

Lastly, your own post uses the word "STARS". Buddy, I see stars and prima donnas every day on film. Give me that hard-working dedicated recruit who is just as good as big, just as quick as the "STAR" ... without the hype. I'll show you a TEAM FULL OF TEAM PLAYERS & CHAMPS ... just like the one we have now.

Terry Cox had a helluva post yesterday ... the things we haven't seen from this LSU TEAM. You oughta read it.

Ok, point taken. My only arguement is that you look at some of the players that we got right before or on signing day last year, and they may very well be the players leading the team in the next few years. JaMarcus Russell was our very last signing, and he may be leading this team in 2 years or less. I just don't believe in giving great players the message of "You better decide now, because if you don't jump now, we don't want you." I never want to see great players leave this state and star other places. Immediately coming to mind is Marshall Faulk and Warrick Dunn.

I just really believe LSU needs to send a message to other schools that you won't pry star recruits from LSU in Louisiana.

That message has been sent ... we get the Tiger's share of kids we want. You can't get 'em all and we don't NEED them all. And, some of these kids are real Troublemakers and LSU doesn't WANT them. Chemistry, TEAM PLAY and discipline is everything.
The Sanders case is a perfect example. People in here (Tiger wins, etc) want to get all over me because I think it would be better for LSU to let Sanders go. It's an Okla/LSU/Tx tug-o-war for this kid. Saban has played his best cards with this kid ... up front ... after a 3-year relationship with this kid. Saban pressed him again recently and couldn't get a bite ... so he went and got a verbal from Matt Stoltz ... next guy on our list. We need a sure bet at Mike LB ASAP and why risk not getting anyone and invite trouble via depth problems? Stoltz is bigger and just as fast and hard-working. Nick can go anywhere and get recruits now ... These kids SNOOZE ... they lose ... only those that have a 2-3 year relationship with LSU and have been evaluated and determined as a good FIT for our team should be considered.
Personally, I think Quinn Johnson (the sleeper) has all the skills and will be one of the best LBs to come out of LSU. We'll see.
