Keep in mind, had USC won we would be hearing about how great Pete Carroll is and USC playing in a title game for the 4th straight year. We also wouldn't have the "USC misery documented" thread. ESPN may have also dedicated an entire channel to USC football (simply add "SC" to the end of their ESPNU channel). I figured a few days have passed and the initial disappointment of LSU not getting that Rose Bowl bid has subsided some. LSU does get to beat the living crap out of Notre Dame.
In my mind, Rose Bowl is not any better than the Sugar Bowl. It's just different for us because it's never really been an option for SEC teams. With that being said, I would have been just fine with Florida finishing 3rd and LSU playing USC in the Rose. In fact, having come so close to that happening is the disappointing thing to me. But being in the Sugar Bowl and representing Louisiana as it makes it's return to the Dome is very important.
Seeing that USC cheerleader cheering for UCLA's extra point makes it worthwhile for me that USC lost. So if that meant we go to the Sugar, I'm OK with it.:thumb: That being said, USC losing did not relegate us to the Sugar. Florida jumping Michigan did. :geauxtige
Well with all things being the same, if USC wins (which obviously they should have) then who cares what Florida would have done. I just couldn't take all the adulation going USC's way for an entire month. Wasn't worth it to me to endure.
I wanted to see LSU play Michigan, period. I did not care that much about what bowl. USC would have been pummeled by OSU anyway, so I was really hoping USC would win. I could not believe any of you were pulling for a USC loss. Now we have a lose/lose game with Notre Ame.
Well I hung my hat on either Arkansas beating Florida or at least giving them hell and then hope the human pollsters didnt' jump Florida past Michigan. I really think had Florida had to come back in the last minute to win the game vs. Arkansas the voters would have left Michigan at #2. Meyer would have been pissed (that whole style points issue).
From everything I was reading and hearing at the time, the "no rematch" factor was going to put Florida in there with any kind of win at all. I also was not big on playing USC in the rose because of the stuff that would have been brought up from '03. I would go crazy arguing the fact that the outcome of this bowl would have nothing to do with who was better in '03.
The Sugar is better than the Rose. The Rose is just a media myth. Having spent many a day in L.A., I'd much rather spend the time in New Orleans. Having said that, excluding playing in the National Championship Game, my ideal for this year would have been playing USC in the Rose. It would be a novelty to play in the Rose and playing USC would have been fun for the revenge factor. But I am glad USC did not get into game against OSU. USC arrogance and hype were reaching insane levels.
Had Arkansas won, it would have been #3 LSU vs #4 USC, as far as BCS bowl rankings go. That would have been sweet.
