i was looking at the latest sagarin ratings: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/bkt0506.htm LSU is 21. they have a fascinating ranking on there, where they only take into account scoring margin, not wins and losses. so for instance if you play uconn really tight on the road, you get rewarded rather than punished for a loss. makes sense to me. a narrow loss at uconn is not something that should hurt your ranking, unless you are alreay top 5. anyways, according to this rank, which they call "predictor", LSU is #7. 7! "PREDICTOR.... is the best single PREDICTOR of future games." - sagarin page not bad. and i believe it too. coume tournament time, when thomas and T. mitchell have played a season in the SEC, i can see LSU being a serious powerhouse who could beat anyone. who is with me?
a few more intersting numbers: SEC individual ranks: scoring: 1. G. Davis 3. D. Mitchell rebounds: 1. T Thomas 3. G Davis blocks: 1. T thomas FG % 1. T Thomas
sure they are good enough to beat anyone. but are they consistent enough to do it often? im worried about perimeter O and ft shooting. lot of time to improve though
yes, that worries me too. it makes me think of the interview i saw with brady and T mitchell on inside lsu basketball last week (thanks to cgisclair and his peeps for putting it on itunes). brady talked bout how mitchell was making the transition from an inside player in high school to a perimeter (3) player in college. it could be huge if he starts hitting some shots from outside. somebody has got to step up and join D-mitch and score from the outside. maybe mitchell, maybe temple, somebody. i would calm my nerves quite a bit if somebody besides D-mitch would toss in a couple 3s.
good link. other notes from that bracketology page: seeds: UConn: 1 west virginia: 5 northern iowa: 6 cincy: 6 THE ohio state university: 5 tennessee : 9 arkansas: 10 the bracket reads like an lsu schedule.
Crazy stuff... no 7? About all I can say is that we're good, but we're not that good. Potential yes. Top 10 or even top 20? No. If Espn puts us at a #7 seed now, they must be assuming we'll do well in the SEC and are ranking us on potential. If they think that we're a top 28 team in the country, not so sure. I DO think looking back however, the media is helping our cause (again... note to Brady, do not ever again be afraid to schedule real basketball teams in your non-conference). I think when we beat WVU folks thought it was a fluke, but ranked us, then we stumbled. But when we lost to OSU and UConn in hostile arenas by a point, we actually got national respect more in those losses. While other SEC teams (with maybe the exception of UK and FLA) played cream puffs, we were playing tough teams on the road. I'd say if you placed us on potential, I'd say we're a legit 4 or 5 seed in the tourney if we play our cards right the rest of the season (not higher b/c of our PG situation) and we're a top 20 team. Right now, I think we're a top 35-40 team. :geauxtige
and 21 pts (good for #30) in the AP. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/polls;_ylt=AgsO2cEpITBMysIeTu1wp3revbYF?poll=1
