I just watched the ESPY's. Very entertaining. The show was great. Justin Timberlake was funny, BUT LSU got shafted. The trick play against South Carolina wasn't nominated for best play and the biggest award, best team, did not include LSU as one of the nominees. It did include a hockey team, a college women's basketball team, and a plethora of others...but not the unanimous AP and BCS National Champions. :angryfire I never really bought into the "ESPN hates LSU" theory, BUT this will get you thinking. Oh well. At least we got an award that actually matters.:crystal: :geauxtige
I noticed it too. I thought "Best Game" would have gotten us a nomination- Florida, Auburn, Triple OT vs Kentucky or R-Kansas.... I didn't see LSU nominated for anything, and ZERO LSU highlights. BTW, at the beginning of SPORTSCENTER, there is a clip of several current champs- LSU is NOT included. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
I view the ESPYs as nothing but summer time filler anyway. The only awards that matter to me are the ones won on the field.
Yes, LSU was the unanimous AP and BCS National Champion, but they were hardly the big, prized dominant champ. They were the 1st two-loss champ ever and both losses were to average teams at best. One can argue this team was perhaps the least dominant of all the BCS National Champions. As far as the trick play, I did not see the other nominees, but I'd imagine they were major game changers, like walk-off hits, last second touchdowns, etc... whereas LSU's play was big, but it just gave them a bigger than commanding lead against a team they should be beating anyway. I am not saying I agree with all the stuff I wrote. I just am telling you what people outside of a 50 mile radius of Baton Rouge say.
At time we beat Kentucky, the Cats were everybody's "Tampa Bay". We lost to Arky and Mcfadden which, in my view is a "better" loss than to Stanford at home or to Pittsburgh. 2 plays over 16 games kept the Tigers from being undefeated. We beat an Ohio State team that was supposed to be bent on avenging their 2007 NC game loss and were hailed as being a great team. Yeah, we had 2 losses but we were the best there was last year and would have strapped it up against anyone and likely beat them. Anyone that wants to try and diminish our 2008 :crystal: should check with me. I'll set them straight.
A agree that the Florida game should have been nominated for "best game", but it was on CBS. GEAUX TIGERS
