Tigah fans once again prove they are the best in the world and probably the most knowledgeable college baseball fans in the nation. Makes me proud to be a Tiger!!! From the advocate: For the second straight season, the losing team has joined LSU in taking a victory lap around Alex Box Stadium. A year ago, UNC Wilmington got the honor. Sunday, the College of Charleston took its turn, shaking hands and trading thanks with Tigers fans. "For our kids to get the ovation they did after the game speaks volumes for the fans and the people here in Baton Rouge," Charleston coach John Pawlowski said. "From myself and the players and the College of Charleston, we certainly appreciate each and every one of those people who came out today." The experience, with fans stacked around the field despite the threat of rain, was a first for Pawlowski, who played and coached at Clemson (going to the College World Series twice in the mid-1990s) and coached at Arizona State. "The fans didn't care what uniform they had on, whether they had on College of Charleston or LSU. They respected our team. That was awesome," Pawlowski said. "I mean, I've been around a lot of regionals and I've never seen anything like that. Just tremendous, tremendous respect for these people, what they put on (Sunday) and this whole regional. It was outstanding." Charleston second baseman Chris Campbell got some beads and an LSU hat along the way. "I was glad we took the lap here, because the fans here are just unbelievable," Campbell said. "It made everything so much better. The beads were awesome. I've got something to take home." Cougars left fielder Byron Barber, booed for not flicking a foul ball into the stands in the late innings, was left to smile at LSU fans. "They are first-class fans," Barber said. "They gave it to me pretty good during the game. But as soon as the game ended, it was all, great job. You couldn't ask for anything better. The lap was great. It was just good to see how everyone can get right behind you after the game was over, hold no grudges."
This is a why I truly enjoy LSU baseball at The Box. There is no shortage of tailgating and fun before and after the games like the football games, but they are the classiest and most knowledgeable fans you will ever see at any sporting event! See, fans can be civilized while having a great time...
On Saturady we had six 2002 West point grads (former ball players) hanging with us out in left field all day. They had all just recently returned home from Iraq. We fed them all so much food and even had to go buy 4 or 5 more cases of beer. They emailed me today and raved about how all of the Tiger fans treated them.
