Who cares about other parts of the Country ??? and their perception of Louisiana and its people.

We the people of Louisiana get dumped on left and right by "The rest of the country"
Believe me I live in Texas, I get it every day "Inbred, Drunks, Idiots, Drive boats to work, fight alligators, racist etc etc"

That is the issue here Mr Wiggum, For us this is not just a game, its finally a chance for us as people of Louisiana to get just a small taste of respect. Sure its a football game, but its more then that. For once people are not dumping on Louisiana. So we hoped. People were talking positive about something from where we are from, something we are passionate about. But with the USC issue, people are once again dumping on our state.... Thats why we are pissed, it was our turn in the spotlight, and the North and coasts have yet again begun their bullshit about our state and its people. Read some rival boards, usual crap.

Its bigger then a game or a shirt with LSU across it. You live in the North, you simply dont understand....

This is about respect, something us Louisianains have been hoping for our entire life. If it takes a football team, all of us are VERY proud of to get it so be it. LSU represents the people of Louisiana. Ask Saban he knows it. He said it after the SEC title game. "This is for the people of Louisiana" I almost teared up.

But dont tell us, to be concerned about other things, LSU represents a state of people who get pissed on by "The rest of the country"

If LSU is fortunate to win, It will be more then a national championship. It will be the respect us (Especially those who were moved away) have been clamoring for. Even if its just a few months, and respect for a group of Kids who carry the flag for an entire state of people....

Someone who lives in Minn, or someone who is not from Southern Louisiana simply would not understand this. Nor we should we expect to.

Yeah I'm still ticked about the gopher loss to Michigan. But, winter can be nice. It's winter carnival season!

You're right, Ralph. And sports fans in Mexico City, London, Singpore, Buenos Aires, etc. are probably not concerend about the BCS, either. That said, this doesn't add to your point (whatever that may be). BUT THIS IS AN LSU BOARD, so what do you think people here are talking/concerned about? If you would have posted something along the lines of a discussion as to how LSU is getting respect despite some views to the contrary in Louisiana, that would have been fine. If you simply posted that the whole BCS is not really that big a deal in the Twin Cities, that would have been fine, too. But to come on here and title a thread "LSU fans should spot (sic) whining about USC" then talk about pulling for other SEC schools as some "Southern thing" of "redemption for the South," you open yourself to harsh criticism. And, simply put, who cares?

Dude, we don't dump on Louisiana up here. Most folks like the Mardi Gras and so on and New Orleans and South Louisiana. In fact the perception of Louisiana I would say is positive up here for the most part. People up here won't think any less or any more of Louisiana based on the sugar bowl or if USC claims have a title.

I'm a sports fan, which means that I follow sports. I don't just concentrate on my state because if I did, I'd go crazy because the Stains suck.

Point is, 2 years ago when Nebraska got into the National Championship game against Miami, it was wrong. Did I have any "reason to care" about it? No, LSU was going to the Sugar Bowl against Illinois. Did I care about it? Yes, because I'm a sports fan.

I lived in Dallas and i heard stories of how people from Dallas were treated when traveling after Kennedy had been shot there. Dallas was just known as the place that killed the president.

Then a little thing called " The Dallas Cowboys" came along and it gave the people and state of Texas and Dallas something to brag about and feel good about themselves again.

Dont even pretend that this doesnt matter. Your damn right it matters because as a region and State we have pride and we feel good about our team, Our State, Our Conference, Our part of the Country.

You Yankee's will never understand and it is a waste of time trying to inform you. Football is not just a game it is a way of life in the south. It stores our traditions and gives people a sense of everything is right with the world.

LSU football games are not just Football games. They are events that tie your history through the ages.

It is how you mark the decades of your life on Billy Cannon's run or Tommy Cassanova or Bert Jones .

I Love LSU. It is a part of me that gives me joy that doesnt involve just winning and losing. It is the feeling of belonging to something bigger than yourself.

And the big story is Dallas sports this week is about A-Rod and whether or not he gets traded.

But, to me, an LSU alum, living in Cowboys Country, the NC is everything. I have put up with putdown after putdown being from Louisiana and the South, in general.

"You don't have a Southern accent." Nope, I don't--only when I "wont" to.

"You sound really intelligent for someone from Looosyana." Yes, and I was public school educated, too.

The list goes on and on, but I can take pride in my Tigers, during a fall when I expected to be pregnant with my second child, but instead, had a miscarriage a week before the season started. The disappointment and pain in my personal life has at least been eased with a magical season. Others on this board have written about loved ones who are gone who would've loved this season.

Football in the South is a religion. It is a way of life, and we're proud of it. Now, maybe those from other areas will think my equating this season as a lifesaver for me is simple and backward--but, for me, it's been a quality diversion, keeping me focused that there's more to life than what I lost.

Every region has stories that are bigger in their section of the country. The entire nation, obviously, is covering the BCS championship story. The Dick Jauron firing is not that important to us, relative to other events (trying to sound like Saban).

For me in Houston, the BCS talk is pretty big on sports radio. They interview Saban weekly and the Tiger fan base is pretty strong here. Of course, the Andy Pettite deal gets attention and Yao and the Rockets. But, I'm sure not as much as Minnesota gives it.

The BCS talk is kind of old right now but it'll get a rebirth and amplify after Christmas. I think the BCS controversy is kind of cool. If our players, coaches, & fans represent the university well, it'll be a showcase for LSU and Louisiana. It's also nice that we're in the game and have the best argument out of the three to be there.

I'll hopefully be learning the Hail to the Victors fight song but I won't be pissed if USC wins. Hell, we're in the Sugar Bowl. I just love the anticipation and planning. It's definitely a way of life and this game has given me a permagrin since they announced the matchup.

hey Stacey.....I hate living in Dallas because it is all Cowboys, Mavericks, Stars, and Longhorns/Aggies. When LSU does get mention on the air, like The Ticket, we get called "big southern dummies" by The Hammer in the afternoon.

I get shit for being from Louisiana all the time, and I also can turn on my coonass accent at will (or when angry). If Texas was involved in the BCS issue this year, that is all we would hear about.

As it is we have to listen to A-Rod and how he does not want to play in Texas for the $179,000,000 left on his contract for 7 years......what a little crybaby! Real people have much worse issues than little Alex.
