LSU fans should stop whining about USC I've accepted the fact that if LSU and USC both win, there will most likely be a split in the national championship both in the AP and Coaches Poll and in the public opinion. Now the potential split title does nothing to diminish LSU's season and is not some sort of sign of disrespect. I think LSU's title claim will be more legit, but having USC be declared national champions by the AP does not in anyway diminish LSU. There is not a national media plot to keep LSU down, to keep the SEC down, and to glorify USC to take away the spotlight from LSU. Living in another part of the country, I have to tell you guys that most sports fans are slightly amused at this and really don't care. Up here in big ten country, it's about 50/50 between UM and USC. Most big ten fans hate Michigan and don't care so much about conference or regional pride like the SEC. It's some sort of Southern thing to think that a SEC victory in the indy or peach bowl is some sort of redemption for the South. Most big ten fans would like to see UM lose, in the idea that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. We have more state level pride than regional pride up here in the big ten. Sure, we'd like to win the ESPN cup or whatever, but it's not such a big deal to us. If my big ten team wins its bowl game that's good enough for most big ten fans. If we were USC fans we'd be saying the same thing they are saying. If LSU was not in the sugar bowl we'd be saying the same thing I bet. But, you'd be surpised how in other parts of the country this isn't really such a big deal. Sure, we'll watch and have our own opinion but we're also concerned with the NHL, NBA, and NFL right now and college hoops.
Ralph, Thanks for the smug and condescending lecture! I for one will start paying more attention to the NHL, NBA, NFL, an college hoops...what was I thinking?! I guess you are right, being engrossed in your own team's NC bid is just a "southern thing." Thanks for putting up with us. We can't all be as enlightened as you - so be sure to keep on keeping us straight!
I wasn't trying to be condescnding, but I was just telling you that in other parts of the country this whole thing is viewed differently. I'm rooting for LSU and I'm sure that if I was in Baton Rouge, this would be a bigger deal to me, but just telling you guys the opinion in other parts of the country. Sure, people in the South may not care about the NHL and that puts things in perspective for us.
We'll then Ralphie ole boy, either you are a liar or you are extremely stupid. Did you actually expect to respond positively to that post?? What were we to say?..."Wow!, Ralph is right, we really are just a bunch of whiny southerners...and this whole NC controversy thing really does pale in comparison to the bigger sports scene at the national level. Our silly little concerns are only mere amusement to the more progressive areas of the country” Maybe you are neither a liar nor stupid, just a natural-born elitist. Which of the 3 is it?
I wonder if things wouldn't be very different according to Chief Wiggum if the University of Minnesota were substituted in LSU's place. If so, LSU fans probably wouldn't really care, either.
Well, the local sports scene up here and in most likely in other parts of the country are more concerned with other sports right now and that does not diminish your interests. I'm just telling you that in other parts of the country the NFL playoffs is getting more attention than the LSU-USC controversy. I just don't see this national conspiracy to prop up USC and to diminish LSU. If anything LSU is getting more positive attention. The split title in 1997 did not diminish Michigan or Nebraska and it won't do any harm to LSU.
We like Hockey and the NHL, eh. What aboot up there in the north, eh? We'll forgive you for your inner Canadian coming oot. Oh jeez, I'm sorry, you're from Minnesota, not Canada. When was the last time a team from Minnesota won anything? NHL - Wild NBA - Timberwolves NFL - Vikings LSU - 2 out of the last 3 SEC Championships. Pipe down aboot people not caring up in the north, maybe if you guys knew what championships were like, you'd care a little more.
"Hey, Hey.....Ralphie Boy......Pal o' Mine....." You blew it dude.......I thought you were a quality poster that brought some sembelence of the outside world to this board.... Your condecending tone towards us Southerners just dosen't feel good. I also think your opinions on the BigTen fan base are not accurate. I know alot of fans from the BigTen and they really do care about their conference as a whole. They are like any other conference fans.........come bowl time it's "Go Michigan, Go OSU, Go Gophers etc......." They do pull for each other just like the SEC sticks together and the Big12 and so on........But you must not be a conference fan........just a Gopher fan. Right now, Michigan is the team America wants to win. I know LSU fans (and OU) fans are pulling for them. I would think the rest of the BigTen would like to see them beat USC. It would be conference pride thing. It must have really pissed you off when Michigan came back on your Gophers and won that game. How many points did Michigan score in the 4th quarter? 31 or so.......Must have been humiliating. Go ahead and watch your Minnesota pro stuff.......enjoy it. But I'll let you in on a little secret........I don't think the rest of the country cares about the Timberwolves, Viqueens, Wild or whatever other pro crap you got up there. Have a great winter.
Yeah, my point exactly. We wouldn't be all upset if an LSU fan told us, it's not really such a big deal to us. You're up in Chicago, right? Now tell me is this LSU-USC thing as big as a deal as the Dick Jaron speculation, the Bulls lousy season, the implosion of the white sox this winter. Wouldn't you say that the Tribune or the Score or WMVP is more concerned with other things right now?
