After trailing by 5 at the hald and 12 in the second quarter, LSU put on the brakes and rallied to beat VIllanova 63-52 at the Women's Sports Federation Tip-Off in Eugene. Oregone. Seimone led Tigers with 19 points most of which came early on. Tigers had difficulty defending Villanova's 6-2 Liad Suez, who led all scorers with 21. In addition to not being able to stop Suez, LSU was turning over the ball, getting little scoring from anywhere else but Seimone, and Temeka was not getting many assists. What the Tigers did do right was rebound. In fact that had almost as many offensive boards as Villanova had total boards. This resulted in LSU getting to the line where they had a huge advantage in FT made and attempted. Doneeka Hodges hit her 1000th point somewhere while scoring 11 on the evening and Scholonda Hoston chipped in 13. Temeka ended up with 9 points, 8 boards, and 6 assists.
It's a good win. Villanova is a solid program. I'm hoping for continued great success from the ladies this year.
They went to the Elite 8 last year but are not ranked in the Top 25. Don't know what's up with that. Well, we got bush-whacked by Oregon in the next game, but it was on their floor and we played like garbage. Hopefully we won't have another game like that.
Officiating cost us the Oregonian game. It was horrible just pitiful. Coach Starkey was called for a technical at the 12 minute mark in the 1 st quarter and then it was all over for us. Coach Starkey just lost his cool when one of the frontwomen for the Oregonians slammed dunked the ball and then proceeded to hold onto the rim in an act of defiance to our team. We should have been then badly but what can you do when the refs are sporting Nike uniforms and shoes heh? Villy will be a Top 15 program this season. Their center is 6'2 and can really run the court.
