As good as the defense is, what do you think the defense's weakness is? Is it against the pass? What do you think the Irish would try to exploit?

If ND can play the blitz when we put it on them, then they'll complete a bunch of short passes over the line to wherever the blitz came from (yeah I know... thanks Capt. Obvious).... Other than that I really don't think ND is going to be able to find too many weak spots...

If asked this a few months ago I'd say they should pick on Chivas Jackson, but he's stepped up quite a bit down the stretch...

    Hey, swerved!

Say hello to Captain Obvious for me, whatever that means. I believe Weiss is going to test the LSU "mostly" over the middle early and quite often with quick "in-routes" in the 5-15 yard range, with range increasing if Quinn has any extra time to throw. I also look for a few quick tosses to the RB to beat the LSU blitz packages. And likely, if they get a drive going, they'll air it out to their best 2 WRs & test LSU corners and that double coverage they are gonna get on those 2 Senior WRs.

I expect Quinn to take the sacks and/or throw it away often, sickeningly often.

LSU fans are gonna be screaming for Int'l Grounding Calls all game long. The zebras never throw 'em against ND, that's a fact. I guess it's insurance in the afterlife when they're standing tall before THE MAN.

I expect 50 passes in the game. I hope LSU plays Nickel every down and puts their speed package in there. Maybe ND gets 50-75 yds rushing, but if Quinn gets sacked a lot, much, much less.

Another Point: Quinn's really good. Those 3 picks against Michigan didn't happen when they played USC at year's end. Quinn had zero picks at USC.

I look for more of the same style against LSU. If we are lucky, we get maybe 1 pick in this game. And, we better make sure we turn that into 6 points.

Quinn likely throws for 2 TDs (3 is a stretch) with maybe 1 pick.

All LSU likely has to do is score 21 to win. If LSU gets the running game going and JR is hot against a suspect ND secondary, the real question will be:

Can LSU put another "Miami-type" performance in the record books?

Never count these hated Irish out! But I suspect the Luck of the Irish is gonna get "mugged" in that Superdome Wednesday Night.

Somebody turn that Dome thermostat up to 80 degrees ;)

    We got yankees coming!

    :geauxtige Sugar Bowl :champs:

Thats good if thats our weakness because he is a pretty good cover corner. You can tell other teams go out of their way to throw to the other side.

I think Zenon is the one they will pick on. The good thing is it not because he is a bad corner but it is due to process of elimination...hell, weve got ourselves a good D. :)

The way the underdog Boise State played tonight, I bet Weiss would have similar trick plays up his sleeve. He will probably immediately attack LSU with a barrage of passing plays and trick plays to try to keep LSU off balance, and play with much intensity.

For their defense, I suspect they will blitz like heck right from the getgo to try to disrupt Russell. I hope Fisher has some new plays installed in the game plan as you can bet that ND had studied all the LSU tapes in detail.

It will be heck of a coaching duel..

At least we don't have to worry about our coach dying of congestive heart failure on the sidelines.

Best thing to do against LSU is keep 2 tightends in and max protect.. get 2 WR's out in patterns with a runningback coming out of the backfield... occasionally you can have one of those tightends release across the middle. This gives you enough people to pick up the blitz while also having an extra blocker for the running game.

Well, Notre Dame hasn't really gotten a huge amount of sacks this year (#30 nationallly, LSU #5).

Plus LSU protects its quarterback very well (#31 nationally, Notre Dame #92). I'm sure Charlie wants to change that, but he may not have all the tools.

I suspect Quinn will be scrambling more than Russell.

Plus, Ark did a pretty good job of this against our D. I expect tricks.

I think the OLBs will have to be on their game. Chevis Jackson and Jonathan Zenon are indeed good cover corners, but less than solid tacklers. I don't see LSU getting burned on a lot of deep balls, but if Quinn can hit Samardzija (geez the effort it took to spell that properly :dis: ) with short-to-midrange curls and post patterns, I'd try to give those CBs some help and not bring a lot of outside blitzes.
