Just got back in town so will offer my sincere congratulations on a great win and the genuine National Championship. OU was outplayed and outcoached and I was very impressed by the LSU defense - the best defense any Sooner on the team had ever seen. Hope we can meet up again in a year or two. Geaux Tigers!
Thanks man. I gotta admit you guys don't go down easy. It should have been a blowout, but OU was having no part of that. Interesting to see a Sooner say that Stoops was outcoached. It's very true. I thought Stoops was overly stubborn in going with his passing game late in the 4th quarter rather than continue with the fair success you guys were getting out of the running game. It's as if Stoops was determined to prove that his passing game could beat our pass defense. Obviously the wrong choice. Curious as to how you guys feel about Jason White coming back now. His record is obviously tainted with the last 2 games, and he has been greatly exposed for his weaknesses. It will be interesting to see if other teams next year will be able to do somthing similiar, or will Stoops get his O-Line problems straigtened out. But of course it went beyond the O-Line, it also had a lot to do with the OU receivers not being able to separate at all from the LSU DBs. Maybe you write this one off as a futile attempt at moving the ball against one of the best college defenses of all time.
Thanks for the compliments. OU's defense is the real deal too. With defenses as good as LSU's and OU's, I think it's similar to the baseball maxim that good pitching beats good hitting. Both OU and LSU have some serious offensive weapons, but both defenses were largely able to shut those weapons down. The ability to shut down good offenses is what shows how good both teams are on defense. BTW, I think LSU or OU would light up USC's world if we played them. USC has some serious offensive talent, but they haven't seen anything like the kind of defensive pressure either LSU or OU could bring. As for USC's defense, their pass defense has been suspect all year and LSU or OU would torch them through the air.
I'll tell ya how they feel about Jason White now. Many people are calling in to the talk radio shows and e-mailing the paper calling him an "embarrassment to the university' and that "he should go on with his life and let the young guys play'. They are putting most of the blame on him for the loss. It's really sad. I've quit listening because I don't like to hear all the negativism. The whole team is a failure and the season was as well to many. Thanks for the kudos, Soonerbird. Your team played a great game and as I have stated before, you have a class program with class people in it. Your fans represented well in NO. GEAUX TIGERS!! :geaux: :helmet: :lsug: :helmet: :geaux:
This is what I was curious about cajdav1.....I was not trying to make my own statement about Jason White, I was only curious if there was widespread skepticism about him coming back now. It is kinda sad that they feel this way, because a little over a month or so ago, they hailed him as their god. It will be interesting to see how the kid handles the pressure next year. Because they will be calling for his head the first loss they get.
Hey SoonerBird, would you agree with me that LSU's defensive performance was far more dominating than that of K-State's? I mean you guys moved the ball pretty much at will against them. I thought in that game you guys made more the mistakes to cause your problems than the K-State defense causing it. I watched a replay of the K-State game, and for those who did not get a chance to, I don't think they realize that LSU was actually the first team to TOTALLY shut down your offense. I think many thought that K-State had dominated you defensively, but that is simply not true.
I came into this season believing that blitzing as we did, that we're covering a weakness that we have and that was pass coverage. As the season went along, and as I watched USC, I learned the difference in covering a weakness and the blitz being your scheme. The only defense I can compare this years LSU defense with, is the 1979 Bama defense that played against Penn State in the Sugar Bowl. That was a dominating defense as well, but I think this LSU defense is better.
Thanks. My sincere congrats to the Sooner faithful for an outstanding season, and great game. Those players represented OU and their fans very well. I have to admit, while I had the utmost confidence in our guys, OU was the ONLY team in the nation that scared me. I mean, up until a month ago, EVERYONE was ready to hand the National Title to OU... Dominating defense, explosive offense....BLOWING people out of the water by HALFTIME, etc. But I'm EXTREMELY HAPPY and PROUD of the way our own players handled the adversity. LSU really beat an outstanding team. Any time you beat a team the caliber of OU, you DESERVE to be a National champion!! Best of luck in the final weeks of the recruiting period and for next season. I look forward to meeting you guys again real soon!!! :geaux:
