While I am hugely disappointed that the Tigers couldn't pull off the upset I am in no way nearly as distraught as I was after the football team blew the lead vs #1 Alabama. Rather I am encouraged that if they can use the momentum from this game to keep playing at that level for the rest of the season we could end up surprised at how far this team advances. As of the loss last night, LSU is in no way off the bubble and they need to win at least 5 of their last 7 games to be assured a ticket to the big dance. If they had played that way in every game this season they would be 23-1 and would have just suffered their first loss. To play it down to the wire like that with Martin playing 38 minutes, Mickey 39 and Hornsby 37 against the depth of Kentucky's well rested rotation of bigs says a lot about how good this team can be. If Martin an Mickey stick around 2015-2016 could be a really special season.
I have been going back and forth today over whether this will catapult them into the end of the season as a validation that they can play with the best or will it take the wind from their sails. I hope it is the former, but all too often after a game like that you see a let down the next game or so. We stand at 17-7 right now with seven conference games remaining that include Tennessee twice, Florida and Ole Miss at home, A & M, Auburn and Arkansas on the road. If we go 5-2 in those games that leaves us at 22-9 going into the tournament with a 11-7 conference record. I think if we can win at least one conference tournament game we will squeak into the tournament. Maybe it's wishful thinking, and we definitely have work left to do but I think we get in this year.
I, like you, worry that this was their one good punch and they may be spent for the year. We'll find out how they respond on Saturday.
uk's guards were 12-37 with only 2 3s. lsu's perimeter D is the main reason the game was close. and there wre only 9 turnovers (gray with 1). the main reason for the loss was not the last play of the game but the fact that lsu let uk get about as many off reb as lsu got def reb (17 to 23).
Is anybody else watching the first half of this Tenn game? LSU is a tournament bound team this year, amigos! I don't care who says what about the coach, or team deficiencies, or about recruits coming in. Let's focus on this year and this team. CJJ has made some key lineup changes, and it is paying off.
I'm switching between golf and the basketball game on my TV and baseball on the computer. The Tigers are shooting lights out resulting in a 27 point lead Good to see.
