in theory lsu was competing for national honors at the start of this season, coming off a final four, with an all-american on the team, did the pmac fill?

i think community popularity with basketball will always be fleeting and hard to come by, whereas football, there is no stopping it. baton rouge is football.

i don't think so, do you?

So let's sum up what we are saying...

The standard/expectation for LSU men's basketball is not on the same level as the football and baseball programs.

We don't want the LSU Athletic Dept to raise their standard/expectation of the men's basketball program. It should stay on the same level as the women's basketball program.

    Miss anything?

I'm guessing most of you who feel this way were not alive of barely aware of LSU basketball because you were too young to remember. Dale Brown was a great motivator and took underachieving teams to a higher level. When he had talent (O'Neal, Jackson, Roberts...and before that Macklin Scales Cook etc) he couldn't coach that talent. Went to two Final Fours with arguably the best talent in the country and got embarrassed. The other FF was with a very overachieving group that played well together.

Brady has done no worse than Brown...but he has taken a team to the Sweet 16 and a Final 4 in 9 years...not too bad in my opinion.

i dunno maybe someone else is saying that. what i am saying is that lsu (and by lsu i mean baton rouge) cant sustain long term community interest in basketball.

i point the finger at the fans like myself and others who do not go to games (although in my defense i went to every game when i lived in BTR). the fans want a football school, and thats what they have.

i dont blame brady for not filling the pmac. the dude is coming off a final four appearance, if the fans will not show to watch big baby, they are the problem, not the team/coach.

I don't judge success of the basketball team by attendance, although the more they win, the more fans show up.

It's not about attendance, it's about how we define success. We fired our baseball coach who went to 2 CWS in 5 years ... and most agreed with the firing.

The standard is much lower for Brady and this basketball program ... and I'm not sure why that is.

Exactly my point gumborue. thank you

Read and heed those that think D Mitchell was the difference in LSU's run
    last year over TT.
I'll be glad when people give TT the props he deserves!

I think I disagree but not sure, really!

The argument saying that I wonder what attendance was like under Dale Brown compared to John Brady.
I would agree that there is no way that attendance should be bad after
the last 2 years but some people seem to not like John Brady?
I personally have always been suspect of him but after the last 2 years
I think he is ok and capable of coaching at LSU.

I also wonder that Martin may correct meaning when LSU football was rock
bottom or not as good maybe fans came to support the basketball team
because there wasn't much else to support.
    OR
Is it that football tickets are so expensive that most people can't afford both?
I am a HUGE college football fan but also a HUGE college basketball fan especially LSU.
This is why I've always wanted LSU basketball to be more consistant.
Personally, I could care less about college baseball even though it got
me through some tough times as a LSU fan.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying "it is what it is". People want the coach replaced because people want to be the best, or at least, among the best. I'm not defending Brady, nor am I bashing him. If he's fired, fine. Let's see what the next guy can do. If he sticks around. Fine. Let's see if he can recruit a couple of studs and take us to the promised land. In the meantime, I'm not going to "demand" or "expect" anything. I'm going to deal with what's there.

I really don't think the LSU AD has a meeting where it's decided to just leave things as they are because the standards are lowered.

Ok, here are the attendance figures since the PMAC opened. When Brown was winning, the PMAC had more fans than when Brady is winning. Brady has one year of averaging more than 10,000 per game. Brown had 18.

I understand that. Look, I said Brady is an average coach. I know most take that as an insult, but it's not. Most people, including coaches, are average at what they do. No one likes being called average, but it is what it is.

No guarantees if you bring in another coach, unless it's a known winner, which likely won't happen. But unlike football and baseball, the bar is lower for the basketball program. That's all I'm saying.

And for the record, I'm not suggesting we fire Brady.
