do i like that knight did those things, no. (well, i guess i dont have a problem with him cursing the media---they often deserve it and i think a lot of times he does it to take pressure off the players.) but i think there are many more ways (usually ones fans cant readily see) that a coach influences his players like: basketball knowledge, technique, character (perseverence, intensity, attention to detail), help them get a job later, demanding class attendance/grades. bottom line is i think knight was/is one of the best ever the important things. and brady is doing pretty damn well too.
All people remember about Knight are the tantrums and the chair throwings. Will Muschamp, our defensive coordinator, slamdances with his players all the time and nobody says anything. It's called INTENSITY, and I like that quality in a coach. Does Bob Knight go a little bit over the top sometimes? Sure he does. Are some of his incidents unacceptable at times? Definitely. But the fact remains, Knight is a DANG GOOD basketball coach and a guy I would want to coach my team and my son any day of the week. The numbers don't lie. As of the end of the 2003 season: 809 wins, third all-time behind North Carolina's Dean Smith and Kentucky's Adolf Rupp, best active total. 12 conference championships (one at Army, 11 at Indiana) 24 NCAA Tournament appearances One NIT Championship Three National Championships Five Final Fours Coached the Olympic Gold Medalist team at the 1984 Los Angeles Games, making him one of two coaches with the "Triple Crown" of coaching (NCAA, NIT, and Olympic titles) 16 Knight assistants have gone on to be head coaches at the DI level. 90%+ all time graduation rate during his tenure at three different schools. Has helped numerous players find jobs and go on to graduate school after their playing days are over. Not one single investigation or sanction by the NCAA in 36 years as a head coach. NOT ONE! All in all, an incredible career by an incredible head coach. He has a temper. So freakin' what?! Some of the best coaches, heck, some of the greatest military and political leaders in world history, had bad tempers. It's part of what made them so legendary and, in many cases, so feared. I'd have Bob Knight on as my coach anytime. I hope to say that one day about Brady. But again, I like where we are right now as a team. The conference slate gets really tough from here on out though. Like I have said many times, I will reserve judgement on Brady until the end of the season.
Yep, Knight is a fine human being and a great example for our student athletes ... http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/7057362
You can take all of Bobby Knight's accomplishments and the good things he has done and keep them if you ask me. He ruins every good thing he ever accomplished when he acts the way he does. It isn't only when he loses his temper. He has gone off on many a curse laden tirade when he wasn't angry and many of them, including the tirade in the press conference along with Steve Alford, appear to have been pre-planned. He is a very intelligent guy and to blame it all on his temper isn't plausible. The guy likes being the way he is, a renegade with a me against the entire media world mentallity, but he has also become a tyrant in the eyes of most people in America. Just because he has a temper you want to forgive him for all of his actions. So we should say guys like Latrell Sprewell and Dennis Rodman should be forgiven for their actions just because they have a temper. His quote of a woman " about to raped should just sit back and enjoy it" tells of the insensitive jackass he has become.
Cajdav1, I totally agree ... I think some fans want to win so badly that they will look the other way. That happened at Indiana with Knight for many years. Knight may be one of the greatest basketball minds, along with Wooden, in our lifetime. But he may also be one of the all time jerks to ever coach! His accomplishments will always be overshadowed by his personality...
We won because we were playing mediocre teams, that's all. If we were in the ACC this year we wouldn't beat anybody. I've watched a lot of games this year and the SEC games have been for the most part bad games. I see teams from around the country with the ability to make shots, play great motion offenses, etc. In the Tigers games I have seen teams that could make a living as a mason.

Re: Re: Another Link That article says nothing about the possibility of him resigning, just that he won't coach against Baylor and possibly Kansas. Get your facts straight.
