OK, scout has added a couple of 3 stars to the mix in the past couple of days but hey are pretty much completed according to the guys on the scout forum. They may add some more, we'll see. Anyway, these are how the State of LA is sitting right now on scout(I haven't figured out how to pull up the players state by state on Rivals yet) and how the in-state players were ranked in the preceding years, pretty intersting IMO. I haven't heard that this was going to be a weak year for LA like I heard last season, but thi year looks to be very weak when compared with previous classes. I also have thrown in other states to see how LA compares to them so far this year, it looks shockingly bleak. USC and Texas should be battling for a national title every year, it's hard to fathom how they went through 2 or 3 coaches each without competing for much of anything before Brown and Carroll took over those programs. It's hard to believe that Virginia, Maryland, N. Car., Oklahoma & Washington have more and better talent than Louisiana. Also, that Illinois would have twice as much and that we would be only slightly better than a football bastion like Indiana.
Looks like it's a good thing we got a coach that can recruit Texas! What's with the dropoff recently in talent here in Louisiana?
Id say there is nothing wrong with it because ratings mean absolutely nothing. Weve all seen low to medium rated player become beasts and highly touted's become crap.
While I really don't believe LA has a dearth of talent like these numbers suggest, no way a state that produces this much NFL talent is this low, I do believe we will have to depend to a large degree on out of state recruits in order to have a good class. Miles will be judged by many fans on this recruiting class and it may be a real hard year for LSU as we are in some hellacious recruitng wars for LB's, Olinemen, TE's and Safeties for top notch talent. I think that we are going to be fine in state for Dlinemen, WR's and RB's. Those other battles will define this class IMO. If Miles can bring in a great class in a year like this I think it would prove in one year that he is a great recruiter, however if he doesn't bring in a great class I think he should be given a mulligan.
This is a tough recruiting year, for now. Miles is trying to sell these out of state kids on coming to a top notch program with the chance to win championships & he hasn't yet proven that that is what they will be comming to. We've also got a very deep & talented team in most positions. When we start winning some games this year & giving our players some good numbers with them being recognized individually & as a team - then we'll really start getting more of the recruits' interest. Right now, we've got facilities, fans, and a players coach. Once Miles starts showing he can win championships - we'll have everything recruits are looking for.
Well.. Chicago, Cali, Texas... big markets.. gotta cater to your big markets.. in the end, its a business...
Gee, didn't Curley Hallman have a backfield with the #1 running backs from Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas? Parade Player of the year Josh Booty? If they can't produce, all the stars in heaven won't matter. Recruiting continues to grow out of control...
