http://theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/11297313-123/rabalais-with-a-phone-call Who knows, maybe something really good comes out of all this mess. Maybe the frustration leveraged by Chavis to justify his quick run out of town to A&M will be the catalyst that finally results in a change in the offense. I mean when you lose players that's one thing. When you lose a defensive coach because the offense is inept well that should be eye opening right? Either way it goes, the way this whole thing went down really changed my opinion of Chavis as a person. No matter your level of frustration, you have to look beyond yourself and consider those around you. Especially if you are in a key leadership position like he was at LSU. It was obvious that the D was distracted during the ND game. They were just not playing to their abilities. That was not the defense that we had watched growing and improving through the season. Those kids knew something was brewing. So he allowed his personal frustrations and intentions to take away from the team. What he did was not much different than if he had announced he was leaving before the game. There may not be a right time for these things to surface but there's a better way that it could have been handled. Given what I have observed I think he ended up where he should be. I'm not a big Sumlin fan either. Birds of a feather ... Well if nothing else this elevates the A&M - LSU rivalry. I've missed hating those guys over the years that they were off our schedule. It's nice to have them back where they belong. And if this course of action drives the changes we have all been hoping for on the other side of the ball and LSU comes out better in the end ... well I will offer my thanks to Chavis. But my opinion won't change. You screwed the Tigers because you couldn't wait just another day or two. You could have told Sumlin the same thing you told the media, that you only want to talk about the game right now. If the offer was good before the bowl game then it would have been good a couple of days after. By the way, does Miles have a pool?
Leave it to the Advocate to be a week behind on the news. No wonder newspapers are going out of business left and right.
Suspect the pool boy outed him and word traveled fast. He just confirmed the rumors. Would you like him to go all Sabanesque: "I am not the next DC of ATM."?
My feeling about chavis has always been like musical chairs (hear me out). You've got a decent "seat" it gets the job done but every once in a great while the bolts come loose and drop you on your ass (right about in the 4th quarter). I think most are worried about the unknown, which is very valid, and don't want to go back to the two headed cluster f DC situation we had a couple of years back. That being said there are better "chairs" out there we just need to find them for this team. Leaving the analogy behind chavis has a handful of huge games for us b/c of his conservative play calling and 3nd and chavis mentality. I am not sad to see him leave, however I am worried about who we will bring in. There is always room to get worse compared to what we had but there is also room to get much better. Maybe we will get a DC who believes in wrapping up tackling, pressuring the QB more, and playing aggressive for 60 mins.
So why did we pay the rest of those guys so much money? It is more than one person responsible for wins and loses.
