http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2003/football/ncaa/11/25/bc.fbc.mississippist.se.ap/index.html State wants to announce by the end of the week, and this article only mentioned Fisher as the speculated hire.
If it's true than so be it. I'll miss him, I just hope that he isn't walking into a disasterous situation in Starkville (NCAA penalties). It will be strange to root against Jimbo.
We still have perhaps two games to play after Arkansas. Losing Jimbo just before the SEC Championship Game would be very bad for LSU. We would have time to deal with it before the bowl game, but it would be tough before the SECCG. I still haven't heard that Skip has been asked for permission to speak with Jimbo, yet. Good luck to Jimbo, but I sure hope the timing is good for LSU . . . like the day after the SECCG, if LSU makes it to the game.
Max, are you saying this because *you* know? Or because you just figure after reading that article???
Saban said last week that MooU had not asked for permission to interview Jimbo and that Jimbo had not interviewed for the position.
I'd say this hire is about a 50/50 chance. There are rumblings that say he's a lock and in the LSU camp they claim that he'd not been contacted. I guess we'll see how honest our coach's are when money is on the table. IMO, if Jimbo accepts this job it will go down as one of the worst career decisions in the SEC, ever. How can Jimbo succeed in recruiting with the emergence of cross-state rival Ole Miss ? Not only that, but all he has to do is look in the other direction and he sees a national powerhouse in LSU. Recruiting is going to be unmercifully painful for him if he doesn't achieve instant success. And even then, how do you sell Starksville ?? I feel that any coach can recruit somewhat successful in their first couple of years with the excuse "we're building something here", but after that you better show the fruits of your labor or else "you're toast". This makes NO sense to me. While Jimbo's offense has been better than average, I see no evidence that the man warrants being a HC in the SEC.
That article means absolutley nothing. Typicle coach hiring talk. I think and "hope" Jimbo remains focused on the task at hand , #1"getting us to the SECCG" and "#2winning the SECCG" and I'm sure he will (remained focused that is ), then do what's best for him if the opportunity presents itself. Can Miss. St wait that long who knows. I do know we dont need any distractions at this point of our season. The extra 2 weeks is not gonna mean that much to state any way. PS: if you read USC's message boards they sound a little worried to me. Trying to convince themselves theres nothing to worry about.
I'd doubt very seriously if he would leave prior to the end of the season for LSU if they get into the S Bowl. Nick Saban was on here in Houston this morning and said (to paraphrase) that Jimbo has handled the situation "in a manner that would not disrupt what we're trying to do here (at LSU)". Coach sounded just fine with what Jimbo was doing, so I assume this means the Off. Coordinator is not just going to walk if indeed he gets the gig.
