We all liked the LaFell block, and I really enjoyed it. Reminded me of Michael Clayton. Brandon has a long way to go, but that was a good first step. Was he just lucky? Maybe, he blindsided the guy, but Brandon looked solid there, and the St. guy was coming full speed.

I saw a play by Chad Jones near the end of the game, a St. receiver caught a pass and was running down the sideline and making more progress than he should. Jones came like a bolt of lightning and put him down with authority! Chad looked like he was moving twice the speed of anyone else on the play. It gave me a good feeling for the next couple of years, that boy looked good!!! He's on my watch list for the next 3 years.

I think Al Woods was in the ST. backfield and looked like he was fired up, I think thats a good sign.

I didn't see Barksdale, but the Advocate said he played. Anybody watch him?

To hijack my own thread :)hihi: ), I was on a Gator site to see what they were saying, and based on the game, a couple said "LSU is not all that", and based on what they saw, our average offense, they think they can beat us in BR. They said the D looks like a championship D, but the O will cost us the title. To be fair, a couple said we held back, its early in the season, the O will be better when we play, and it was too early to put a W down for Fla. Like one guy said, first game of the season, SEC opponent (even if it is St.), on the road, field was wet, new OC, new QB, 45-0, played a lot of new kids the second half, probably showed only 1/2 the playbook, it was a pretty strong outing.

I like the fact that Doucet was open every play. I was slightly worried about how he would handle the extra coverage now that he is the go-to guy.

Lyle Hitt is going to keep Will Arnold onthe second team, I think. He was a blocking machine out there.

Completely agree on LaFell. That reminded me of Michael Clayton too.

Should the math be such that some other talented receiver (Lafell or Tolliver) could be open if Doucet were double teamed, esp. when used as a decoy?

I usually agree with you Red, but this time I think you're wrong. I watched him on quite a few plays and saw him get beat a lot. Now, I did notice that his motor was constantly running and that's good to see.

One little thing I noticed was the decision making by both QBs was very good. RP threw one away when things broke down. Flynn did the same quite a few more times. Now, I'd rather see a completion than a throw-away, but if it's not there, don't force it. Play for another down.

No turnovers under very wet conditions against a team that was playing pretty good defense. I think that is VERY impressive. :thumb:

He got pushed back a bit on pass protection, but I don't recall him giving up a sack. However his run blocking was good, I thought. He was the pulling blocker on both of the TD dive plays.

Since the VT defense is being billed as a very fast one, wonder if they can be taken advantage of by using TH as a decoy?
