This is Bush's War and you know it, you can't blame the liberals. It wasn't the liberals that called for more troops it was the generals and they were calling for 300,000 to 500,000 troops right at the start. This was the long-standing war plan to invade Iraq. Bush scrapped that and sent 130,000. Now he wants to raise it to 160,000. That ain't my plan! It's WAY too little and WAY too late. It's going to fail Sourdough and I will point it out to you. Are you insane? Iraq is much worse than when we arrived and is steadily deteriorating. Everybody sees this now, including the republicans. Casualties are up, bombings are up, shootings are up, employment is down, oil production is down. The country is in absolute chaos and you think things are better? When did I get to vote on it? You've lost your mind! Name one. There is not one shred of evidence to support this. This is a stale scare tactic that nobody buys.
My bad, I thought the Dems and Liberals voted for the war before they voted against it. I just don't think the Dems shouldn't receive the credit they deserve as well. It wouldn't fail if I was president but who knows, I don't know what to think anymore. I could've swore I heard democrats callying for more troops though. Strongly disagree. I've heard from soldiers and others that have been there. You make it sound like its the whole country instead of pockets here and there. Some of them have also said that they are working side by side with Iraqis that are helping the insurgents but yet we do nothing to those people. Let me say that I do take this source with a grain of salt because it is suppose to be a soldier that was in Iraq. I don't know why someone would lie about this so I believe it! Mis-stated, I meant the democrat politicians. Cities in WWII and also Fallujah. Thats what happens when we don't restrain our forces and run a real war. You may be correct but I don't think that you will argue about Bin Laden statement about us leaving Somolia the way that it happened. He said we were a paper tiger and weak or something like that.
Red, Ive been following the trial closely and you are right that Libby is in deep do-do. However, some of the testimony that has come out really shows what scum bags Plame and Wilson are. Their involvement and orchestration of the whole Niger thing shows they werent victims in the least. Its obvious that testimony from the CIA manager shows Plame to be acting as a rogue with self interests. She was the primary factor in getting her husband the gig in Niger and many people at the CIA didnt even know what she was doing or what the mission was. Much of this case and the associated testimony are ridiculously convoluted and leads to many news outlets, like the NY Times articles you posted, to do nothing more then editorialize and speculate on what really happened. Just look at all the different "takes" that news outlets and blogs "think" happened and a time line that nobody fully understands, including Fitzgerald. All this begs the question "who cares"? This is a monumental waste of government money. Why put Libby on trial for something that resulted in no national security breech and amounted to little more than an insider power game among crooked power brokers? I suspect this trial is going forward to save face for Fitzgerald who basically got nothing from 2 years worth of work on a case that was thought to have block buster implications. One could easily compare this case to the Clinton case which also resulted in basically a bunch of years work for nothing. In my opinion it will be hard for Libby to dodge the perjury charge but he may get off the obstruction. If his defense mounts a good counter case and proves the testimony of the prosecution side is slanted (immunity deals) and confusing (most ardent observers cant even agree on what happened) he may get off the entire thing.
This may be true. But Armitage, Libby, and Rove still broke a federal law by leaking an agent deliberately. And they have ethics issues by doing it for political purposes. It begs the question, "Why didn't Fitzgerald enforce the covert agent act? He never even tried, apparently. Even though testimony indicate who the three leakers were and who was orchestating it, the Act was not enforced. Why not? The president vowed to find out who leaked a covert agent and said he "would be punished". Fitzgerald just gathered all the information and then indicted a perjuror instead of the leakers. Amazing. Libby is toast on perjury, I think. The reporters and the White House witnesses are killing him.
It was a given he couldnt enforce the covert agent act. The jury would have laughed that case out of the court room. The evidence showed Plame as a non-covert desk jockey. No way that charge would stick and Firzgerald knew it. Furthermore, he brings that charge and it opens up the ugly side of Plame/Wilson. His whole case could have collapsed given the focus that would be put on what charlatons they were thereby creating doubt in the entire case. His only option were these two charges for a chance at conviction. Rove and Armitage will never be charged or found guilty so we cant assume they broke federal law. This entire case that started as a huge uproar has been reduced to finishing with a slight whimper.
Libby guilty on 4 of the 5 charges ... 2 perjury, 1 obstruction and 1 making a false statement. He will be sentenced in June. I predict he'll never serve a day in jail. Libby Guilty
I'll take it. He won't do the full 25 years, but he'll do time. Man, where is LSUCraig when you need him? Last year he guaranteed me that Libby would be found innocent.
Bottomline is you better not serve in politics and forget information unless you are a liberal, then you can steal, cheat, lie just like Sandy Burglar. Ass backwards world aint it!
It's about time someone in the Bush administration has been held accountable for manipulating intelligence and discrediting war critics.
