Who would you rather have? Both have large talent bases but seemingly have underachieved (coker won his national championship with butch davis's players and hasnt done much since). I know its too early to make a real comparison of the job miles has done but from what you have seen so far, which would you rather have? BTW its my first post so dont bash me too badly. LSU! :geauxtige
Not unless you consider a couple BCS bowls after that national title and a consistant top-10 program as "hasn't done much", then I guess you're right.... Coker is not Butch Davis and Miles is not Saban... In both cases, the coaches that departed were/are better than the ones that took over. If Saban and Davis weren't better, then it would have been Coker and Miles coaching in the pros. It's not a dig on either Coker or Miles--but it's a fact: if they were better, then it would have been them coaching the Browns and Dolphins respectively. Both Coker and Miles are pretty much even in my eyes. Both had good success with the talent that they inherited in their first seasons but BOTH have shown to be able to keep the ball rolling reguardless of what happens by showing they can both recruit to keep their teams near the top 10--which is what everyone wants their teams to be...
Interesting question. Coker has proven to be consistent for Miami. He isn't the best coach they've ever had, but he keeps them a top program year in & year out. Miles hasn't "proven" much yet. He hasn't proven he can keep a consistent top program. It also remains to be seen whether Miles has underachieved or whether the expectations were unrealistic. If Miles wins 9+ games next season & the team looks good during it, then I think fans will accept this season as an anomoly & not the trend. Miles has proven, as best any coach could at this point, that he can recruit very well. So I guess for me, the question becomes would I rather a consistent Coker & know that I'll have a "good" team, but never really be great - or do I go with Miles, whom could end up being horrible or be able to have great success. Due to my optimism about Miles at LSU, I'd have to go with him (who didn't see that one coming!? :yelwink2: )
that is by far one of the DUMBEST posts I've read.... Miles, in his own right, has a top-5 recruiting class as well, jackass.
First off, welcome to tiger forums!:thumb: Coker was a coordinator under Davis. So I don't think it's fair to say that the players were solely Davis'. I think Coker should get full credit for the Championship, after all Davis could not win a NC with the same players. I am happy with Miles, so far.:yelwink2:
