What do the posters here think would be a "fair" starting salary for Les Miles. I mean he isn't Del Rio, Tedford, Ferentz, or Spurrier. Or is he? Some posters were talking about paying BIG $$$ to get one of these coaches to come to LSU.
Skip already said that we will pay a coach based on their experience... which means if we landed a Spurrier or Ferentz I would expect 2 Mill a year, whereas if we hire a Miles he will probably get a little over 1 Mil... I also expect the next coach to have a rather large buyout and about a 6 to 7 year contract.
I think Miles just signed a 1.5 Mil contract with OK ST. not long ago. If this is correct, I would guess he would be offered near 2 Mil.
Les did just sign a new 1.5 mill contract thru 2011 with options for 2012 and 2013. He also has a 1 mill buyout.
Me, too, Philter. I think 1.8 mil with the same incentives that was given to Saban: win the SEC, pay increase...win the national title....Miles can expect to make over 2 mil.
I would like to see much of the salary based on incentives and a HUGE buyout clause so this nightmare is less likely to happen again soon.
Skip said that a coach would be paid his "fair market value, which is what he is being paid now." Obviously, he will be offered a small raise, but he won't get $2 million until he brings home a championship. I predict $1.6 million with incentives. Nick had already won an SEC championship when LSU raised him from 1.2 to 1.6. Miles has to pay his dues first, but he knows that LSU is not shy about paying top dollar for top performance. LSU needs room to reward this man in the furture, should he bring home SEC and NCAA Championships. As Skip said about Saban once, "we can't pour money on him every year."
I can tell you this, he walking away from a $1 million dollar bonus, and a $1.5 million salary, so you guys are selling the farm to get him. Not to mention the $875K buyout.
Yes with the way salaries are exploding lately I don't see us getting him cheap and especially don't see him losing money in the deal.
