Here's the thing though. Yes, we did end up with only 1 second to spare after the TD catch. And yes, that's too damn close.

But the play call to go for a shot at the end zone was *not* crazy. See, Miles did not call that passing play with only 10 seconds left. I rewatched the last minute of the game and what I noticed is that the previous play ended with a good 41 seconds left in the game.-- yes, 41. In theory, there should be plenty of time to take one shot for the end zone.

The reason it ended up cutting it so close time-wise is that we just took so friggin' long getting back to the line, and then also a long time at the snap. We ended up snapping the ball with only 8 seconds left in the game because we dilly-daddled too much. It's the same reason we had to call all those wastefufl timeouts earlier in the half -- just taking too much time to get ready for the next play.

Bottom line is that Miles' play calling was very sound, but he needs to get the communication and execution of the called plays smoother.

BTW, I'm so glad we have a bye next week. I'm depleted!

    GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!

    great post Bubba.

When Miles sees the replay, he will be astonished we cut it so close. He thought we snapped it a few seconds earlier.

Great play call. I love the aggressiveness.

I wonder what the boards would be like today if we got sacked on that play.

But, luck is better than sense, and this might be the luckiest coach ever.

    I'm just happy we won.

He's just enough "madman" to have other teams playing regular defense on all of our punts and field goals. Doubt we get any blocked this year. 4th down? Just another down.

I posted about this in another thread, but a quick recap on my opinion... it was as "crazy" of a call upon further review:

Did Miles know that Flynn would take his time to get to the line of scrimmage, and then to finally hike the ball with only 8 seconds left? I don't think so. That same exact play could have been called in from the sidelines and run with at least an extra 3-5 seconds left on the clock. But Flynn had no visible signs of urgency on that touchdown play. This is not trying to criticize Flynn. But if Flynn and the rest of the team breaks from the huddle with 18-19 seconds left, like they did on that play, and hurry to the line and hike the ball with 12 seconds left instead of 8, then this "crazy" call isn't so crazy-looking.

I thought a pass to the endzone would have been a good call on 2nd down. If incomplete, come back and run it on 3rd down to the middle of the field and call TO with a second or two left, then kick the field goal. I never thought we'd throw it on 3rd down.

Miles should spend the off week in Vegas. I'm gonna spend it recovering from 3 heart attack games.
