A set of beliefs alone does not constitute a religion. To be a religion, it must be a set of beliefs and worship of a supernatural diety. Well, that explains everything.
Believing that there isn't a god requires faith as well. It can't be proven, so being an atheist requires a leap of faith in the other direction.
I absolutely agree with you Red, that to be a religion must involve faith and worship of a supreme, supernatural diety. A lot of people sometimes forget that when calling various groups a religion.
I was just about to respond to your first post however I agree with this although I do believe the democrats could be in trouble with this election over energy, the oil crisis in this country. Anyway you should see what a democrat governor and congress is doing in Colorado. A bunch of stupid republicans voted for the guy, this is why party trumps person btw. The democrats passed a law so that any pedophile, man, woman or child can use any public bathroom, etc as they wish. They are also trying to pass a law where you can't drill for oil 3 months of the year to protect some prairie dogs. This is some of the stuff talked about on the radio here, keep in mind I don't really try to keep up with politics that much, its a waste of time. I haven't watched the news bias on tv for a year of more. Like Red said, they say one thing and do another! I think they all suck, the only time I felt proud to vote was actually the first time I got to vote, for Ronald Reagan. The rest of the time it has been for the lesser of two evils, I'm in agony! The way the country is today, I just want to go puke!
Given the pay raise debacle, I am seriously thinking I may never vote again. Time and time again we put what appear to be ethical, principled people into office and time and time again they turn into politicians with a me first attitude. Fuggem all.
What? Faith comes in when one is professing belief in something that cannot be proved to exist. It is impossible to prove that something doesn't exist. It doesn't take a leap of faith to disbelieve something imaginary.
Why? I believe in God and I believe that Western folks have overcompensated and try to keep too much separate. But back to the point, I am simply saying that it requires faith to say that God does not exist, because just as God can't be proven, God can't be disproven. Believing that God doesn't exist is believing something explicitly that cannot be proven. The purely scientific point of view should be that God cannot be proven, but also that God can't be disproven, so the possibility of God can't be written away. Scientists shouldn't say x doesn't exist unless they can prove x doesn't exist.
In a democracy, we should be able to do something about this. However, term limits may be biting us in the ass. In an attempt to keep representatives from becoming career politicians, we have created Cinderella politicians who aren't concerned public outrage or about being re-elected. They have a limited amount of time and they peddle all the influence and grab as much as they can for themselves before midnight strikes. Fugg us.
