Word is just coming out of Atlanta now, Larry Munson has passed. He was one of the greatest CFB radio announcers of all time, and a legend in these parts. Look for UGA to try and "win one for the Gipper".
I loved listening to Munson when I lived in Coastal Georgia. Dude was a legend. Sorry to hear of his passing.
His "hunker down" cry was legendary in that part of the country. When you heard his passion it was hard to believe that UGA was his second college job.
He was the one with the famous "hob nail boot on their throat" line Maybe someone can pull that one up on youtube or just an audio of it I found this: Larry Munson's Top 10 Favorite Calls - Georgia Bulldogs Blog - ESPN 1. The Hobnail Boot: Oct. 6, 2001, Georgia 26, Tennessee 24: Munson says, “We just stepped on their face with a hobnail boot and broke their nose. We just crushed their face,” after Verron Haynes’ game-winning touchdown catch in the final seconds at Neyland Stadium gives Mark Richt a rare victory against Tennessee and Richt's first signature victory as the Bulldogs' head coach.
He did some stuff for Vandy and the Atlanta Braves. He lived in Nashville and would drive to Athens on gameday up until 1978.
Larry Munson was the best announcer of all time in any sport, imo. Here in Athens everyone would turn down the sound on the tv's and turn up the radio during the games. I would see him out kinda jogging in his gray sweats with a white towel around his neck into his late eighties. His final broadcasts here were movie reviews of all things.
