Rudy was the only one on the entire offense to get a 4.0 ... and probably the one with the best chance of getting an NFL contract. Here's hoping Rudy passes up medical school and helps anchor the 2005 LSU OL :geaux: http://www.lsusports.net/feature.html?ref=92061C5C-B478-5148-450044D262009485 Niswanger Named First-Team Academic All-American 12/04 BATON ROUGE -- LSU's Rudy Niswanger has been named to the 2004 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team, the College Sports Information Director's of America announced on Wednesday. Niswanger's selection to the first-team marks the third straight year in which the LSU football team has had a player earn first-team academic all-America. Former Tiger Rodney Reed earned first-team academic all-America honors in 2002 and 2003, while Matt Mauck was a second team selection in 2003. Niswanger becomes the 14th first-team academic all-America in LSU history, joining the likes of Tyler Lafauci (1973), Robert Dugas (1977), Mike Blanchard (1994) and Chad Kessler (1997) as former Tigers who made the team. In the classroom, Niswanger maintains a 4.0 grade point average in kinesiology with an emphasis on pre-medicine. On the field, Niswanger has started all 11 games for the Tigers in 2004, playing three positions on the offensive line. Niswanger started LSU's final three games at center, subbing for an injured Ben Wilkerson. Niswanger's other starts this year have come at left and right guard. Niswanger ranks first among LSU's offensive linemen with 67 knockdowns in 2004 to go with 18 pancakes. He's also allowed only two sacks and been whistled for just one penalty this season. Niswanger, a native of Monroe, La., is a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll as well as being named the top scholar-athlete for LSU's national champion football team in 2003. 2004 ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA® FOOTBALL TEAM http://www.lsusports.net/feature.html?ref=92061C5C-B478-5148-450044D262009485
It's very impressive to maintain a 4.0 and put in as much time as these athletes do to their respective sports. I know they get some help by having tutors, a great academic center, required study time and such - but to maintain a 4.0 is already impressive, much less while being a starter on LSU's football team.
Tell me about it ... I never reached the "Grail" ... falling short with a 3.9 GPA playing golf and FB. It was that damned golf ... I just know it
No kidding I'm sure that minor in pre-med was a freaking breeze! I just can't believe it actually took him 3 years to graduate. I mean if he didn't sleep between practice, games, and class he could have cut that down to at least 2.5 years. What a pu$$y! Someone should warn the med schools that this guy is a slacker. I mean come on anyone who graduates with a 4.0 and doesn't have a double major in engineering and nuclear physics shouldn't even be acknowledged.
No. Getting a 4.0 in anything while playing football is impressive. What I am saying is that I'd like to see someone do that while studying engineering, for example. I doubt if anyone on the FB team has the cojones to do that. I know I wouldn't. I remember Ronald Dupree majored in EE while playing basketball, but I dunno if his GPA was that good.
Are you saying that engineering is harder than pre-med? If so, I challenge you to go back and re-think your position. :dis:
Kinesiology is another word for P.E. and an ephasis on pre-med doesn't mean you minor in that field. But, at least he goes to class.
