According to a report on the Metro West Daily News web site free agent running back Kevin Faulk has reached a deal to remain in New England, although terms of the deal were not disclosed. The agreement will keep the five-year veteran with the Patriots, joining fullback Fred McCrary as the only two running backs currently under contract for the defending Super Bowl Champions.

Faulk confirmed to the News that despite heading into free agency on Wednesday with the option of testing the waters of the open market, remaining in New England was his personal preference.

“I think it's being comfortable with your surroundings, the fans, the coaching staff, the players,” Faulk said. “This is a situation I want to be a part of.”

Faulk played in 15 games for the Patriots last season, including eight starts. He finished the regular season with 178 carries for 638 yards and 48 receptions for 440 yards.

The 5-8, 202-pound former second-round pick out of LSU has played his entire NFL career with the Patriots, playing in 72 games with 20 starts. His career totals include 502 carries for 1,875 yards and eight touchdowns and 178 receptions for 1,571 yards and seven scores. He also has a 23.0-yard average on 146 career kickoff returns.

The Patriots did not confirm the reported Faulk agreement Thursday afternoon and efforts to reach Faulk's agent, Raymond Brothers, were unsuccessful.

Will be interesting to see if New England ends up being the team to bite on Maurice Clarett.

I don't think the Pats can stay put with just those 2 running backs.

Rohan and Kevin are two guys who represent LSU so well. They are team-oriented and are people of good character. In fact, I'm not aware of any horror stories about former LSU players currently in the NFL. No Keyshawn, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Jeremy Shockey types that I am aware of. I think that trend will continue with Saban recruiting that type of player, athletically and personally.

It is always embarrassing to me when a former LSU athlete becomes a jackass at the pro-level (Albert Belle, for instance) or gets in trouble with the law (Cecil Collins). It doesn't happen often, thankfully.

Although we have had our nut cases in the NFL. Cecil and Kinnsion "The Duece", and Harvey Williams

however as whole the LSU group has been very successful off and on the field. More so now with the rise of Teaux, Booger, Double D, and the Krewe of Saban starting to litter the NFL. Parcells says Brady James is one of the hardest working men he has ever met.
Kevin Mawae who Bill Parcells says is the greatest center he ever coached to the Kinchens and their off the field work.

Right now Kevin is the only back on the roster. New England does have a ton of picks in the draft this year so look for them to take a back somewhere along the way.

When they draft a running back(and they will), it will most likely be a pure runner since they have the all-purpose back in Faulk
