[/QUOTE] LEXINGTON, Ky. -- University of Kentucky reserve quarterback Joe Joe Brown has been charged with fourth-degree assault for allegedly punching a 20-year-old woman in the face.

Brooke Fugate, a student at Murray State, filed a sworn complaint last week with the Fayette County attorney's office stating that Brown poured beer on her and punched her at a party in Lexington on July 22. She told police that she suffered pain and swelling from the altercation.

Brown, a redshirt freshman from Cordele, Ga., who is competing for the No. 3 quarterback job, already has been disciplined internally, coach Rich Brooks said yesterday.

"Any further action will only come after he's found guilty or innocent," Brooks said. "I've heard the other side of the story. Instead of the presumed innocence, it's always the presumed guilt."

Fugate, who was home in Lexington for the summer at the time of the incident, told The Courier-Journal that she was driving past a party when she saw a friend from high school. She stopped to talk and at some point felt beer being poured down her leg.

She said she got out of the car and moved toward Brown to pour a beer on him, but he punched her in the face and knocked her to the ground. Fugate said she attempted to retaliate and was pushed to the ground by Brown.

She filed a report with police that night. But instead of going forward with charges, Fugate said, she tried to handle the matter by going to UK's coaches -- first defensive coordinator Mike Archer and later Brooks.

"When I heard from coach Brooks, he told me that he would make Joe Joe run until he puked," Fugate said.

If only Pittman had been there to protect her. Then again, half the bleeding hearts here would find him at fault anyway.

Sad state of affairs for the Wildcat team. I guess when you can't beat up on guys from other teams in your conference, you target women instead. :dis:

I helped out at the battered women's shelter in BR once for the Halloween Party.... heart breaking... women walking around with bruises and cuts. The children were usually one of the two extremes- 1.) Scared to death of you 2.) Attached to you and didn't want you to leave.

    I couldn't go back.

Those situations are always the toughest. Take a real special person to voluntarily enter that kind of atmosphere. You should be commended.
