ATHENS — Georgia linebacker Tavares Kearney, a freshman from Tucker High, faces possible expulsion from the university after a teacher accused him of cheating on an exam and simple battery. The battery charge, filed against Kearney by instructor Dawn Penn, was dropped Wednesday, according to an incident report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution from the University of Georgia Police Department. However, it is possible Kearney could still face disciplinary action from the school's student judiciary panel on that charge. check out the www.ajc.com for the rest of the story
Is it the water in Athens. GA? Remember how many SEC championship rings were on ebay after they won the SEC in 2002? Marc Richt must be proud of these guys. I know we have islolated incidents at LSU (tack minor) and a few others, but it seems like UGA's athletes make news twice a week.
I would love for someone to post that exam that the UGA afletes have to pass. You know the one that made Headline News on CNN last year. Just maybe the exam will provide some clues. :hihi:
I really honestly believe it's all about the type of athletes a program recruits. One thing that I always liked about Saban and his staff is that generally they would recruit not only good players but young men who were good citizens/people. And it's no coincedence that during Saban's tenure in Baton Rouge you rarely had football players names dotting the police blotter. During DiNardo's time here it seems like everyday we were all tuning in to see what clown that circus-like atmosphere would produce next.
Cecil Collins was a prime example of that, as was Cisco Perkins. Saban took a chance with the keys kid and stood by him. The youngster showed his loyalty by then bolting to Alabama. I don't see Miles breaking from the Saban mold in this area, especially after the heat Tennessee, et al are catching for players actions.
I've thought for several years that Richt, although a good on-the-field coach, has a bit of (to use the NCAA's buzz phrase) "lack of institutional control." And, yes, he's from Florida State--enough said.
